SAVINGS IN SOUTH
SHOW BIG GAINS
ATLANTA, Jan. 18.—Ahe South-
erners becoming more thrifty? This
question is being asked in Atlanta
. appropos of Thrift week which is
1 to be observed from the 17th to the
• 23rd throughout the country.
Im the flush times following the
- World War the answer was “no”
-‘Four years of ups and downs in
[ prosperity seem to have brought
. with them another story of the hab
i its of the people in squandering or
i taking care of their money.
The latest reports received by At
. lanta bankers from the savings
> banks of the country show total de-
> posits of over 17 billions, or 47 per

TROUBLE
What is your chief annoyance at
. present? Be glad you’re not Mrs;
, I Elsie -Silva, widow’, in Boston,'
• [ Christmas Day, drowsy after a big
;; dinner, she yawnedand her jaw
j snapped out of place. A doctor flx
!ed her up. But the same thing hap
pened again, five times. Every time
■ she’d yawn, the jaw would dislocate.
I As this is written Elsie has gone to
’ [ a hosital to see if she can get per-
[ manent repairs.
She’ll cei taiinly have something to
talk about, for the rest of her life.
What a pity, this malady couldn’t
be extended and applied to political
orators to take effect as soon as
they onened their mouths.
