COOLIDGE OPPOSES RAILWAY WAGE CUTS WASHINGTON, Nov. 22.—Pres ident Coolidge feels that if a reduc tion of freight rate sis made at this time, it should be nccomplisbed through reduction in operating costs rather than at the expense of wages of railroad employees. Present conditions, in the opinion of the president, do not warrant a reduction in railroad wages, where as he does believe sufficient eco nomies can be made in operating expenses to permit a reduction in freight rates, if such is found feas ible.
