Mr. ltobt. Heath, brother of Mr. G. W.
Heath who recently died in this place, ar

ilwirgn W. Heath, who bos been Bug
Chapman's bsr-tender for several years,
committed suicide Friday evening by
taking Incdsnnin. No cause is known
for th<> act, and all that is known ia what
he told Mr. Chapman shortly after taking
the fatal dose, which was that be lmd
killed himself by takiug laudanum. He
wan nut ufa melancholy nature, bnt was
cheerful und courteous to all, attended
to liis own business, and seemed to bs
getting along smoothly and quietly. He
came here years ago from one of tha Car
olina* in a tob.iceo wagon. He sold his
tobacco ami s ttlcd down here, being en-
gaged in various pursuits until ho became
Chapman's bar-tender.
As soon as it was known that ho hr.rt-

Prof. Hurt, of Eafaule, is here, and

Confederate soldiers' Graves.
Wc learn that the question of placing
head and foot stones at the graves of the
Confederate soldiers buried in our cemc
tory is being agitated by some of our cit
izens. Tbe graves ars now designated by
Wooslcn slabs, which are rapidly decay
ing, and tho letters upon them are almost
obliterated. Tbia ia a measure due to tbe
Confederate dead, and any efforts made
for the proper preservation of tbe sol
dier*' grave* ought to bo fraught with suc-
