and ccopted.
Hon. Arthur Gray tendered his
resignation, which was not ac

The committee then entered
upon the business for which It had
assembled.
Mr. Daniel, of Richmond.oifered
a resolution providing fornno con
vention to be held June 85ih, to
r elect delegates to Chicago, Presi
dential elector*, candidates lor
Governor npd State Houseofficers.
Jvdgc Hall offered n substitute,
which provided for oneconvi niion
op<m the same plan, adopted in
1876.
Both resolutions and the one
convention idea were forcibly op
posed by Mr. Dessau. .Mr. Liweon
and Gen. Young, Judge llnil. Col.
}(«rns. Dr Carlton, and Col. I>an
let* spoke in lavor of one conven
tion. After considerable discus
•ion. it was decided to put all llic
motlons aside and take a direct
; vote upon the number of conven
tions to lie held, one or two. When
that vote was bud the result was
for one convention 7, for two cun-
• vent ions 10.
Thus one very important ijues
tiou was easily settled.
Those who favored one con
vention were Messrs. Gray, Carl
ton, Harris, Hall, Peeples, Daniel
and Aiken.
Mr Daniel then offered the fol
lowing reaolutlon, which wasadopt-
ed:
That the Democratic party meet
la convention in Atlanta June 18th
to elect delegates to the national
convention in Chicago, and that
the Democracy orsschoOunty meet
on the first Tuesday InJnae 19
elect delegatee to this convention.
Mr. Peeples offered tho follows
lln u' once e.'illi'd for help, and
fortunately Mr. J. P. Loyd,section
master, who was linving some work
done near, beard and responded to
hi* call. By the time Mr. Loyd
reached him, Mr. Ilomron’s leg be
low the knee was swollen to twice

very great pain. Mr. L. hound a
ligature around the leg above the
knee, anil then laiarded bis band
car to come to Alapaba fur a phy
sician. Dr Fogle was soon found
and hastened to the scene of suffer
ing. When they readied Mr.
Houston's side, wonderful to relate
lie was found sleeping sweetly and
the swelling almost gone from his
leg, 'Around Idm were lying about
a nail bushel of dead mosquitoes,
who Usd drawn the poison from
hitn. These gentlemen, in great
siirpris", aroused Mr. Houston,
who, barring a little weakness Imm
tho loss of hloi.d was as well as lie
everwaa. This isa wonderful story
and some may be inclined, Just aa
we were, to doubt it at first, but
we are personally acquainted with
all the parties mentioned except
Mr. Houston, and we do not be
lieve they would vouch for a story
not true in every particular. The j ~ p ,™j and’w. A. Daniel" baung

hundred murderers were legally
