tive committee pitched their tents
at Jurrett Springs and amid drink
ing, revelry selected a great for

ous city, up to present day, has
there been an event that compared

terday.
Of all that has occurred in the
past to give this city history, po
litical gatherings, and of the great
days when It waa the seat of gov-
ernmeutaud the cradle of restribu-
tfon, nothing has brought together
such n surging mass ol humanity,
representing the business, politics,
religion and society of the great
empire state, as this day lias
brought to witness the beginning
of legislative aid in behalf of the
girls of Georgia. An accurate esti
mate of the crowd is almost impos
sible, but good judges put the fig
ure all the way from 12,000 to 20,-
000.
THE l’AKADE.
Promptly at 11:30 o’clock this
morning the great paradb was
formed on Greene street, opposite
the Middle Georgia Military and
Agricultural colVge. The proces
slon was headed by a squad of
mounted police, followed by the
Milledgevllle band. Then the
Baldwin Blues, with the bational
oolors, Company A and Company
B, of Middle Ga. Cadets, about 00
strong, the DuBiguon Volunteers,
Middle Ga. Artillery, with two
cannon, the Macon Volunteers,
who arrived on 11 o’clock train, the
Putnam Kifles, the Asylum band,
Hoti. W. Y. Atkinson and wife, to
gether with Gov. Northeu, in a
huge, decorated car made for the
occasion, drawn by four spanking
thoroughbreds. Then came the
members of the legislature, about
two hundred strong, distinguished
▼atlon of the moral and Intellectu
al character of boys add girls.
Hon. Clark Howell was then In
troduced and caught the crowd in

of the press, clergy, citizens, band
and Masons.
The parade was one of .the grand-'
est pagaente ever witnessed in
Georgia, and would have been an
honor to any occasion in a city five
times as large as this. The bead of
the procession halted on the west
side of the building and the Gover
nor, with Mr. and Mrs. W. Y. At
kinson, tho legislature, MbbohIo
officers, headed by Hon. John A.
Davidson, and other distinguished
guests, were escorted to the great
scaffold, where the

Bob Whitfield. Col. Wbitfled, elo
quent and happy always, was at Ills
best. ' Maj. J. Carlton Lynes, presi
dent of the Middle Georgia college,
was master of ceremonies.
Hon. John 8. Davidson, Grand
Master of the Masonic fraternity of
Georgia, conducting the ceremouies
of laying the eorner stone. With
impressive and solemn form, the
stone was laid to its resting place.
The stone having been laid, Mr.
Davldson^elivered his address. He
was then followed by Gov. North-
en, who made a speech that kept
the crowd firmly in the grip of his
powerful eloquence. Gov. Northen
was followed by Miss Julia Flesch,
of Augusta, who read a most excel
lent and touching paper on the les
sons of the day’s ceremonies. Sev
eral letters were read from Con
gressmen and distinguished states
men.
THEN CAME THE DINNER,
One of the flnest| spreads ever
seen in the country. The tables
were a little over 2,000 fee’t long,
and were covered from end to end
with viands and dainties of the
choicest and best kinds. There
were more than 100 carcases, repre
senting 10,000 pounds of barbecue,
that Bteamed and fried over the
huge pits throughout last night.
To this were"added a thousand del
icacies, sent in prepared by the
handB of the ladies of this city,
who never left their labors until
every visitor exclaimed, "enough.”
After the great crowds had left the
tables the review ot the college cs
dets was witnessed. Lieut. Col.
Colton Lynes was in command
of the companies. 'But the best
part of the day's program were
THE AFTER DINNER BREECHES,
by several ot the distinguished
guests. The first of these were
made by Hon. W. Y. Atkinson,
complimentary of the splendid ed
ucational advantages of Mllledge-
ville, and pledging bis support to
•very educational institute in the
State that bad for its elm the ele-
terms of Mllledgeville’s work for
t)r the great movement begun by
the state, and pledged his support
to every measure in behalf of the
schools of the State.
Chairman Mitchell, of the Sen
ate, and Hon. R. H. Jackson, ex*
President of the Alliance, spoke
in the same strain, urging higher
education for all.
Then came Hon. Patrick Walsh,
in a powerful address of wisdom
and logic in behalf of the schools of
the State, especial./ t'i*> Girls’ In
dustrial and Normal scbo .i. These
speeches, in behalf of the girls and
boys of Georgia, the hope of the fu
tare, closed the exercises of the day
and ended what was termed by
many distinguished visitors the
GRANDEST DAY IN HER HISTORY
The members of the legislature
and other distinguished visitors
were shown through the Middle
Georgia Military and Agricultural
College, fliey were highly pleased
with the lustitutiou, which num
bers more than five hundred stu
dents on his roll.
Tlius ends the greatest day that
Milledgeville lias ever seen—a day
that will never fade from (he mem
ory of the people.

After the adjournment of court
yesterday, Judge Fort called the
bar to order pursuant to adjourn
ment of tho embryo association
Monday last.
The committee appointed report
ed constitution drawn which was
unanimously adopted.
Officers were then chosen as fol
lows:
President—Judge W. B. Guerry.
Vice-President—Judge J. A. Ans-
ley.
Secretary—Col. E. H. Cutts.
The committee then presented
the resolutions below, which were
adopted by the association and ac
cepted by the Judge.
The resolutions explain them
selves:

Your comfilitttee suggest the fol
lowing plan of calling: the civil
docket in Sumter Superior court, to
be recommended to His Honor,
Judge Fort, for adoption :—
First, The bar to meet with the
Judge at 10 o’oloolt on Saturday
morning preoedtng each -regular
term ot the court and at the same
hour on oach Saturday during the
term. On Jhe first Saturday, the
civil docket to be called In its order
and cases assigned for trial for five
days of the next .ensuing, week
each Saturday to be devoted exclu
slvely to calling the docket, assign'
lng cases and hearing motions and
other matters not involving jury
trials.
Second, when any case is called
as aforesaid it may be continued
for the term by consent of counsel
and shall be continued by the court
for the term for any legal showing
likely to extend through the term,
Cases called in their order, and for
any reason not ready for trial
during the ensuing week, shall be
postponed and called again on the
next ensuing Saturday, and so on
through the term. For Bp-eial
cause tho judge may, In hisdi
tlon, assign any case more i ban
one wsek ahead any day (luring
the term.
Third, no jury trial shall be had
on Saturday, except such cuse
may not be concluded on tb-
ceding Friday. On each Balm day
uponthecall of the docket a -effi
cient number of cases shall b- as-
si 6 ued to occupy the time of the
court for each day of the ensuing
week and not less than two .Meet
shall be assigned tor any on* day,
Cases assigned for any day and for
any reason not tried or disposed of
on that day shall, on the succeed
ing Saturday, be first called and
have the preference in assignment
over any other cases on the docket
for the next week.
Fourth, if the presiding Judge
will adopt the foregoing system,
the bar agrees in good faith to use
all due diligence to be ready for
trial on the day the cases are as
signed.

considered tills question and is sat
isfied that the adoption of the fore
going plan will facilitate the trial
of cases and promote the ends of
