SOLID PIECES
The whole affair will be seUfed.
Or at least that Is what is now
thought.
And the Americus Light and
Power Company will move on as
ever.
With the exception that R will be
a little better.
These statements may be wrong,
If tney Include that the present
owners will run things.
And yet they may be right.
Nothing definite can be said un
til the investigation just begun has
progressed further.
Last night there arrived in Amer
icas Messrs. D. W. Thom and G.
Gordon, of Baltimore, representing
the bond holders of the company.
They come to make a thorough in
vestigation of the whole matter
and see what can be done.
Hearing that, these gentlemen
had arrived, a reporter found them
in the office of Mayor Eelder, in
consultation with him and Super
lntendent White.
Both were found to be pleasant
gentlemen, with an eye for busi
ness, which warrants their being
sent on such an errand.
Of course, they could say little,
as they did not arrive until the
10:10 train from Macon.
“What Is the import of yoBr
visit?” asked the reporter.
“We come representing the bond
holders of the company, to see
what can be done In the way of get
ting matters in shape. We were
informed of the trouble at once,
and are now here to see what Is the
matter, and bow wo can manage
the trouble. You alt down here
know more than we do, and we can
say nothing of the probable out
come until we understand more
about It.
“It ls’our mission to make a thor
ough Investigation, and after that
more can be said. The bondhold
ers are just asanxIouB as you all
down here to have matters straight
ened out, and business resumed,
aud that’s Just what we are going
to try to do. It will take us several
days and we have already begun t
look Into matters.
“So nothing can be said now ex
cept that it is the earnest wish and
inteution of the people wo repre
sent to have matters put iu shape.”
Aud that’s how It stands now.
As is known, Mayor Felder was
appointed temporary receiver, un
til February 4tli. when,if neceasary,
a permanent receiver will be ap
pointed. These gentlemen will fin
ish their Investigation In a few
days,'and It Is hoped that before
that time matters will be so nr-
ranged|that a receiver will not be
applied for.
This is expected, too, and If
such is not the case many will he
disappointed. ' . . ,
The right cause of the shutting
down will not be appreciated
abroad, and while wo kuow our city
Is- on a firmer basis than ever, oth
ers may construe the troublo of the
Light and Power Company as a
retrograde of the oity.
Thus all are anxious for the mat-
ter to be settled, and that’s what
the gentlemen above mentioned are
dowu here for.
