Washington, June 4.—The democrats in the next house of representatives will have to be well guarded all the time to prevent a most gigantic attack upon the treasury. Already some of the ablest Douglass on Leave of Absence. Washington, June 5.—Leave of ab sence has been grained Frederick Doug lass, minister*to Ifavti, by the state de- 'partnymt, with permission to visit the United States. The application for leave was granted about ten days ago, and is for the customary period of sixty days, It is expected that Douglass will- arrive in Washington within a short tinie. An otlicerof the state department said to night that the department was not dis contented or dissatisfied with Douglass’ services. — i • : vErl writers, and most widely known, have THE MOTHER’S FRIEND Patent Shirtwaist No Buttons can be Torn off either in Wearing orl Washing. SHAW, Men s, Youths,’ Hoys Children’s and 119 Forsyth St., americus, ga. been subsidized in favor of tlds scheme. At the close of the last session of con gress the matter was brought before it, but only with a view of having it inau gurated for an organized movement this year. Everything is now ready for the raid of the Nicaraguan canal company on the United States treasury. This company is exceedingly modest, and only asks for one hundred million doll of the government’s money to build a canal which Is to bo their private prop erty, and which w ill cost about seventy- five million dollars to construct. The company will issue, probably one hundred million in stock, one hun dred million of six per eent. first mort gage bonds, and having secured hundred million dollars from the Uni ted States government will construct the immense issue to care for, there will never be enough over current expenses to pay the interest on the government loan. And this is not even a new plan for looting the treasury; it is precisely the same method that was adopted by the Union and Central PacTic, which has resulted in these roads owing * he gov ernment to-day one hundred and thirty million dollars, which there is no pros pect of recovering until that unknown day arrives when the “cows come home.” It is now a settled fact that the al liance will not organize a third party in the south. The peoplo there have sense enough to understand that Sena^ tor Gorman is no alarmist, and that he is one of the wisest and most conserva tive leaders of the democratic party. When ho announced, as ho has done, that tliero is danger in tho event of the farmers forming a third party in tho south, that tho forco bill will come to tho front and pass tho house. People there are ready to accept his word, and to refrain from any fiction that would pjace them in danger of federal bayo nets, dominating tho ballot box for the purposo of producing negro ami carpet bag dominion. Much the largest part of *tho adminis tration is at liar Harbor, Maine, as Mr. Illaine’s hat covers about all the brains of the present booming outfit, and Mr. lilaine has worked so hard that he is a | very sick man, requiring absolute rest for some months to come. Wo pan see betw’een now ami October bow little Denny gets along without any leading ! strings, unless llhiino has provided i some one to tako care of him whilst ho is absent. It is said that provision of I that kind has bcemmade, and that Gen eral Foster, a skillful diplomat and a man of brains, is to take charge of little lien during Maine's absence. Thcro seems to bo some misunder standing between Harrison and Boss Quay. The latter has announced that the Pennsylvania delegation will be solid for Blaine in 1802, with Alger as a second choice, and a number of repub licans aro expressing doubts as to wheth er little Bon can secure tho delegation from his own state, as it is said that Dudley and Houston have sharpened their knives and are ready for the fray, tho motto being anybody but little Ben. A train Th<*y Are Victorious. Montkzi ma, June 5.—Our base ball niuo scored the fourth victory yes terday evening over neighboring towna. The defeated party returned home, to Oglethorpe, this time. The latter place had received some imported help but it was not enough. The score stood eleven to niuo and Montezuma was en titled to another inning that the vlsitois did not care to play. iVache* Going rot-waul. Maksiiam.vu.i.k, Ga., June 5.—[Spe cial. ]—Mr. S. II.
