| Waterloo, Iowa, June 2d.—The ter,
i rible wind and rain storm which began
j Tuesday night appears to have swept
in a vast circle through northwestern
Iowa, with Cherokee as a center.
Seventy-five houses in that place have
been carried away by the torrent, and
how many lives have been lost is yet a
matter of uncertainty.

Heavy Kansas Bain*.
Topeka, Kan , June 20.—About 4
o’clock the heaviest rain storm in a good
many years began and lasted until noon.
Reports from along all the railroads in
dicate that the storm is general only in
the eastern part of the state. Parts « f
the Santa Fe and Kansas Pacific roads
are washed out between here and Law
rence, and all west hound trains are laid
up at Lawrence waiting until the track
can he fixed.
Washouts have also occurcd at Wil-
liamstown: on the Union Puciiiu and on
the Santa Fe The dainagd to crops
will he great, as the harvest is in full
blast in eastern and southern Kansas.
Wheat tha^ is already cut and l)ing in
the field or carelessly shocked will he
almost entirely ruined. The fall of wa
ter is so heavy that the ground is thor
oughly saturated, audit will be an en
tire day after the sun comes out before
work iu the field will he practicable.
