P»ld by the Grocery Company In Dividend.
During a Year.
Fifteen per cent In dividend. 1. not
bad for a year’, time, the fact U that it
i. exceedingly good r.nd that ia what the
Americua Grocery Company has de
clared.
At a meeting held yeaterday a semi
annual dividend of 5 per cent, was de
clared, which with the January dlvi-
dend makes 15 per cent, this year. The
capital stock of the company is $100,000
and the figures given mean that it ha.
turned loose in Amerlcus even $15,000
which were paid to its stockholders.
To the wiso management which the
concern has had is much of this success
due, and a fitting complimont was paid
the conservative, courteous and accom
modating men who managed it by elect
ing them for another year, with the ex
ception of Mr. C. K. Whitley, whoso
other duties and Interests demanded
that he decline the place of secretary
and treasurer. Mr. It. L. McMatli was
olected his successor.
That gives the company these officers:
G. W. Glover president, P. C. Clegg vice-
president, Frank Lanier, Jr., second
vice-president, and It. L. McMatli secre
tary and treasurer.
The Amerlcus Grocery Company lias
established an immense business and if
there is anything in signs its next year
of existence will he as prosperous us tho
one just ended.
The Equal of Any.
When it comes to a matter of solidity
and good' management the Bank
Southwestern Georgia stands second
no bank to be fonnd anywhere. On its
last dividend day this bank declared
dividend of 5 per cent, on its capital
$100,000 and placed $28,000 to the sur
plus fund of the institution.
The recent statement made by that
bank shows undivided profits during
■ix months of $38,018.17 with close
$50,000 in tbe vault and due from banks
and bankers. That statement was
splendid one, but It was expected of the
bank that made it.
President Speer and the gentlemen
who render him such valuable assist
ance in managing the bank's affairs have
made a splendid success of tho Bank
Southwestern Georgia and that they and
their institution are “in it" on the score
of soundness and popularity, ss is at
tested by the fact that 10 per cent,
dividends has been declared this year,
in
Fo
Generation..
The Talbotton New Era boasts of tho
discovery of the youngest father-in-law
in Georgia, who is oniy 31, but Americus
can come on top when it comes to faml
ly records.
Thero is a lady living in Americus who
was a mother at 15, a mother-in-law at
32, a grandmother at 33, and now at 02
years of age she is a great-grandmothor.
Tbe four generations, great-grandmother
02, grandmother 47, mother 10, and child
one week old, were present in this city
In tbe same room yesterday, and the
cider lady is halo and hearty, with a
prospect of living to see the fifth gener
ation added to her list of descendants.
Some Curious Eggs.
Prof. L. D. Lockhart yesterday
brought to this office some curious eggs
which woro laid by hens belonging to
Mrs. SchumperL One of the eggs is but
about one-third as largo as the ordinary
hen egg, though it was laid by a large,
healthy hen. Tbe other is something
smaller than a partridge egg and was
found in tho yolk of an egg that Mrs.
Schumpert broke.
