e THE AMERICUS WEEKLY TIMES-RECOK PER; FRIDAY, JULY 17, 1891. Worn-out, •ran-down,” foeble women, need Dr. Pierce’s Favorite Prescription. It builds them up. It’s a powerful, restorative tonic, or strength-giver —free from alcohol and injurious drags. The entire system is re newed and invigorated. It im proves digestion, enriches tho blood, dispels aches and pains, gives re freshing sleep, and restores flesh and strength. As a soothing nervine, it •Hays and subdues hysteria, spasms, and all the nervous symptoms com monly attendant upon functional and organic disease. It’s tho only r ranieed medicine for women. docs what is promised — or it asks nothing. It giveB satisfaction, in every case, or tho money paid for it is refunded. That’s the way its makers prove their faith in it. Contains no alco hol to inebriate ; no syrup or sugar to derange digestion ; a legitimate ■medicine, not a beverage. Purely vegetable and perfectly harmless in any condition of tho system. This is the way with the Ball corset: if you want ease and shapeliness, you buy it—but you don’t keep it unless you like it. After two or three weeks’ wear, you can return it and have your money. Comfort isn’t all of it though. Soft Eyelets, and "bones” that can’t break or kink—Ball’s corsets have both of these. The Timks-Rkcoriikk:—We, that is to say, three ladies and three gentlemen, decided to brave the perils of the “deep blue Bea” (but the sea is green), on a voyage to New York, and thereby escape the dust and heat of summer travel by rail. We had a delightful time, barring the enforced tribute to old Neptune, while none of the party would have flat tered him for bis trident. Yet perforce with wry faces and ono accord they bowed to his power. And here comes up the oft repeated question, what is it that makes one sea sick? Is it the salt water, or the motion of the vessel? If it was the motion of the vessel, then why not the motion of cars mako ono sick If salt water, why does it not mako one sick when bathing on tho sea shore? is claimed by the knowing ones that it is caused by the absence of rest for the eye, Tlio eye, like Noah’s dove that “found no rest for tho sole of her foot.” We know of a fact, “to tho faint-hearted, who go down to soa in ships, there is sorrow on tho sea, it cannot bo quiet; whoso waters cast up miro and dirt." Tbcro is a fortuno in storo for the man who discovers a preventive for soa sick ness. Tho third day ont on our voyage, as the sun went down behind the Jersey Hats, and sweet musio was wafted upon the umbient air from the shore, wo forgot our sorrows of the sea in tho beautiful vision that mot our gaze, at tho lowor and upper bay, and the level lands, and the entrance into the city il lumined by thousands of lights on sea and land. It was said and believed by many in 1S00, that grass would grow in the streets of New York City, and it would bo given over to tho owls and bats for an habitation, when tho South seceded from tho union. But a greater calamity Is upon the city now than se cession. The agitation of tho silver bill has dono more harm than secession and monoy has gone into hiding like the fid dlers upon the beach, innumerable as tho leaves ;of Vallombros, upon the least disturbance aro gone into their holes, and pulled their boles in after them, leaving not a vestige behind. So has money gono into the safo deposits of Now York to remain until the tinkering on finances by the solans is over. The words “to let” that staros you in tho face from every block, and nearly every house in every block in tho city, with now and then tho legend, “This houso is closed by the Sheriff," tells tbe tale moro potently than tho lamentations of Jeremiah to the ancient Jowb, In ray judgement It is not moro silver that wo wnnt, for wo have moro silver now than the people willingly take, but a silver dollar that is equal in value to tbe gold dollar. Either put moro silvor in the silver dollar or put less gold in the gold dollar. “If the iron be blunt and ho do not whet the edge, then must he put to moro strength." It is hardly fair to ask the creditor to Lake eighty cents in the dollar when you are able to pay him in full. Let ua bo just, though tbe heavens fall. Now If wo wero a nation to ourselves and had no commerce with other na tlona tlion It would not matter. But we cannot mako other nations take our silver only at its bullion value. (SThe “flat” of tbegovornment stops as the vessel passes over tho bar In New York bay, and what was reckoned on change as one dollar shrinks to eighty cents of uncurrent money, hence the seventy millions of gold coin recently shippod to Europe to meet the balances in trade. Tbe remedy for the present distress to my mind is for us to go back to the old system. Abolish the national banks. Let tho state banks issue hills, for every dollar In coin, three dollars in bills. Hedge the banks with strong laws and severe penalties for their violations, then the currency will not all fiow to New York at the behe«tof a few manip ulators in Wall street, as the conjestion of all the blood '.to tho head, but each state will have its quota to transact its business with, and Instead of having twenty-two dollars per capita as now, we will have over fifty dollars. I know that some will bo horrified at the Idea, and will say that they want no "wild cat banks,” that they wants cur rency that is good from New York to Texas, This is the old cry. We do not propose wild cat money, but good money, cheap money for we will never have cheap money until we go hack to the old way, of good collecting laws, and state issues, then the hanks will leutl their money at 7 per cent, per annum, and make more clear profit than under the present system. M. Speer. WATSON'S WIDE MOUTH Turns Loose and Deals Judge Crisp an Un warranted Blow. Wadley, Ga., July 9.—A citizen of Wadley who heard Tom Watson's speech at Kite on last Saturday says the manner in which Watson criticised Amos Cummings’ letter on Auderson- ville left an unpleasant impression of Judge Crisp. Watson says Cummings went to no hotel hut was the guest of Crisp, and while at hi- home wrote the Andersonville letter. Watson further added that Judge Crisp had not denounced the letter. Watson was outspoken in opposlti jn to Judge Crisp for speaker, saying he op posed Barnes because he did not accept the St. Louis platform and it would be inconsistent for him to support Judge Crip. Harry Brown of the Alliance Farmer is a strong advocate of Judge Crisp. But It seems Watson Is a stricterallianceman than the editor of the alliance organ. How loyal some new converts are! De Witt’s Little Early Risers don’t gripe, cause nausea or pain, which accounts for their popularity. The Davenport Drug Com pany says they would not run a drug store without these little pills.
