E. BYRD, Auditor, Atlanta, Ga., July 18 —Those who thought the alliance legislature was going to tear up everything by tho roots aro liable to bo disappointed, as it has proven itself to be a conservative body, witli a desiro to do what is just and right, even if they have to Lake a little time to find out how to do It. The al- lianccmen of Georgia have found out that tho evils of which they complain do not wholly arise from local legislation, and that thore are greater monopolies and trusts than those of railroads, banks and local corporations. There arc the usual number of local hills being introduced, all of which aro being pressed for consideration, and it now looks as though this summer session would bo as long as any of its predeces sors. Xor is tho blame for tlieso long sessions to bo laid altogether to the doors of tho legislators, for so long as tho legislature has to Consume its time in considering measures which could bo more intelligently passed upon by grand jury or local court, so long will we have long sessions. So far nono of the blame can bo laid upon Sumter couuty, for I believe our representatives have not introduced a single hill, Nearly every member has his state map aud census report and is busily en gaged in figuring out new congressional districts. There seems to ho a very strong disposition to cut out a now dis trict for Brunswick, and if this Is done it Is probable that Coffee, Irwin, Telfair, Montgomery and I.aurcns will be cut off tho third and probably Taylor and Crawford added. The attempt to take from us Stewart and Wobstor and place them in the foui th will bo strongly re sisted, although It finds favor with some members who want to weaken our side of the river. Tho indications now are that there will be no reapportionment of tho sena torial districts, as most of the members aro satisfied with them as they stand. Tho senate very promptly sat down upon !l scheme for senatorial reappor tionment tho other day. There has been a very warm contest over the appointment of county judgo for Macon county to fill tho vacancy oc casioned by the election of Judge Fish to the superior bench. The contest lies between Messrs. John W. Haygood and B. H. Wilkinson, and about a bushel basket full of endorsements were pour ed in upon tbe governor by both sides. As Others Bee Him. The Savannah Morning News pays this deserved compliment to the recently elected judge of the Southwestern Cir cuit: Judgo William H. Fish, who ■ was elected superior court judge the other day to succeed Judge Fort, is a man of exceptional merit. He has won the high position he occupies by ability and faithful discharge of duty In all tlie re lations of his life. The legislature recognized his merit by giving bim unanimous vote in electing him to this bench. Don’t storm the system as you would a fort. Sinco the big allianco rally on Wed nesday the corridor., have been filled With gossip about a third party, and tho old time politicians havo been terribly stirred up over the matter. As Tom Watson has been tho bolilost of tho spoakers upon this line, ho has received tho burden of tho anathomas. Conver sation with a number of tho leaders has convinced me, however, that tho nl- liancomen will rather seek to control tho democratic party of Georgia than to form n now party of their own. If they carry out this policy, you nood not bo surprised to soo the sub-treasury planlc a part of tho next democratic platform, and a delegation sent to tho national convention instructed to demand ijs in sertion in tho national platform. In this event it Is not at all improbablo that tho third party will ho formed of those who now so earnestly decry tho third party movement. Speaking of tho sub-treasury plan, i j have proposed a substitute for this cele brated piece of timber, and all tho alii-1 anccmcn to whom I have submitted it j say they are with mo. My substitute is { to striko out tho “sub” part and go for tho whole treasury. And fhis is not so A cow belonging to a farmer near Marshalltown, Iowa, Is the proud moth cr of triplet calves. Wall street speculators and a lot of greedy manufacturers have controlled the government and the treasury so long that tho people seem to have forgotten that both arc of their own creation and therefore ought to belong to them. Let tho peoplo take possession of their own property, abolish tho national banking system, make the coinage of American silver free, issue paper currency in tho ratio of threo to one for all tho gold and silver (as Maj.
