To Save the Present Crop of Cotton from Being: Sacrificed. An Important scheme, the object of which is to save the present crop of cot- ton from being sacrificed, 1ms been for- mutated at Columbia, s. C., and will at once be pushed throughout this and all other cotton-growing states. Mr. K. M. Stobor, a prominent farmer near Colum bia, is tho author of the plan, which lias already received the sanction of leading alliance officers, and a special meeting of the Richland county alliance lias been called for Saturday to take tho necessary steps to put the scheme into activi oration. It is proposed that trust i panics, with a capital of $20,000 or ->0,000, lie formed in each county in the entire dotton belt, and receive as sub scriptions to the capital the one-third of tho cotton crop made by each cotton raiser in tile county. It is proposed to hind tho trust companies so firmly that the cotton placed in their trust can he considered the same as if not in exist cnee, or destroyed, for the next twelv months. At t lie expiration of the period tlie companies are to dissolve and return the cotton held in trust to the owners. By this means it is calculated to hold the cotton supply for this year down to about six million five hundred thous and bales, and consequently bring the price up to about ten cents per pound, as formerly received with a similar supply of cotton in former years. It is calculated that, under tho present price of cotton, a farmer whose crop is nine bales of .TOO pounds each at U cents a pound, would receive only ¥270, where as, if throughout tho whole cotton bolt about one-third of the cotton Is with drawn from tho market for one year, Ids six hales at 10 cents would bring him $300, and leave him to start noxt year's crop with three hales on hand. Tho first trust company will be organ ized in this county at once, and after the plan shall have been formerly endorsed by the alliance—and that it will be Is a foregone conclusion—the necessary stops will be taken to extend the organization throughout the whole cotton belt.
