A MILITARY FAIR BY THE AMERICUS
LIGHT INFANTRY.
An Entertainment to be Given by This
Organization Which Will Doubtless Prove
One of Great Public Intercut and Enjoy
ment to the Participant*-
At a meeting: of the Americas Light
Infantry at their armory on Wednesday
night last it was decided to hold a mili
tary fair, beginning November 24 and
continuing through the week.
Everybody knows what a military fair
is, and how much real enjoyment is to
be gained by attending such entertain
raents. The public can confidently ex
pect some line exhibition exercises by
this well drilled corps, and the military
and other relics exhibited will prove of
general and absorbing interest.
The following members have been ap
pointed by Captain Bagley as a general
fair committee; Lieutenant Wellborn F.
Clark, chairman; A. S. Thompson, treas
urer; Sergeant Charles Van Riper, Cor
poral Tim Allen, and W. T. Lane, with
the commissioned officers, Captain II. C.
Bagley, Lieutenant M. S. Harper and
Lieutenant J. E. Mathis as ex-oflicio
members.
The duties of the committee are the
general control and management of the
fair, arrangement of details and the so
liciting of assistance.
The Americus Light Infantry is one oj
our most important organizations, and
its personnel consists of the best ele
ment of our young men. Every friend
of the body should do all in his power to
assist them in making their coming en
tertainment a glowing success, both
financially and otherwise.

great care in the growing are all that is
required to produce good results.

The Commercial Agency.
The Merchants’ Retail Commercial
Agency is getting to work in good
shape.
As is known, the object of this agency
is to protect the retail merchants against
parties who make accounts and never
settle them. It is a kind of a co opera
tion information bureau.
The black list, which contains the
names of those who owe bills that have
been left unpaid so long that collection
seems impossible, has been sent out. It
was received by the members of the
agency this morning.
Thousands of names appear on the
list. Every letter in the alphabet is rep
resented, and alongside the name of
some common laborer can be found the
name of some of Macon’s leadiug citi
zens.
The lists have furnished many sur-
prl-es, and those who get them will
make good use of them in their busi
ness. Ladies* names, as well as those of
their husbands, brothers and sons ap
pear. The lists are interesting.—Macon
Evening News.
A similar list of the “black sheep” in
Americus might, if published, astonish
the public. If the books of the Times
Publishing Company are not different
from those of its neighbors there would
appear the names of some very promi
nent people whose accounts are playing
hide and seek with the statute of limita
tions.

MOTHERS’!
FRIEND'
Mr*. Young: J. Allen.
Among the distinguished ladies in at
tendance upon tho Woman’s Missionary
conference, now in session in this city,
is Mrs. Young J. Allen of China. Mrs.
Allen and her husband left Georgia in
1859 for this mission field, and have ever
since been residents of that far away
country, devoting their lives to the
sacred work of the Master. Dr. Allen
and his great work in China are too well
known to need comment here. Among
all those who have consecrated their
lives to the mission work, none have
achieved nobler and more lasting results
than Dr. Allen, and in all his zealous
sud arduous labor his wife has been his
constant companion and most efficient
and earnest helper. Mrs. Allen is now
in Georgia, superintending the educa
tion of herjcbildren, and her state is glad
to welcome back, even for a brief stay,
this distinguished daughter. Mrs. Allen,
during her visit to Americus, is the
guest of Mrs. C. C. Clay.
Eczema, Ringworm and Tetter are all
disagreeable companions and the source
of much annoyance. Hunt’s Cure cures
them all. Guaranteed. For sale by all
druggists. oct9-w4t
