He is an old man, formerly a school teacher, and under sentenco of doath for assaulting a little daughter of a preachor at that place two years ago. Most of the time since then Carden has been in jail. He once before es caped, hut was recently caught. The case was beloro the state su premo court, which confirmed the de cision of the lower court, and the sen tence of death was passed a few weeks ago by .ludge Trayner. Carden picked his way out of jail with a nail, a piece of brick and a broken broom handle. The deputy jailer is censured for bis carelessness. The sheriff of llradley county offers a liberal reward.
