New Y< !”v. Oct. 81.—Dun's weekly
review of trade shvs : Business failures
occnrrinff during the past seven day#
number for the United States, 2o7: Can
ada, 48, compared with a total of 248
the Is.st week, and ;*50 the week pre
vious ; the corresponding week la»t
year, 218. representing 190 failures in
the United States and 28 in Canada.
Improvement in business continues.
It is greater than before at the west,
considerable at the south, and is clearly
perceived even at the east. Yet dis
couragement in 6ome branches of in
dustry is not less, but not more appa
rent than before, evidently because cal
culations have been made upon a more
rapid and greater increase in business
than has been realized. The peculiar
expansion in some forms of production
and of trade has invited the usual in-
ct view, and depression exist.*
which is f*o general that it might easily
be ini’interpreted. Iu the speculative
markets the tendency to reaction in
stocks has prevailed. The Bank of Eng
land has advanced its rate of interest,
and gold imports have been, for the
time being, checked. The reported pro
hibition of wheat exports by Russia has
stimulated speculation in bread-stuffs
which again threatens to interrupt tin
free marketing of products. Through
out the east and west, and at most
southern points, the money market
well supplied for legitimate business,
and rates tend lower, while collections
iinprow to some extent almost every
where, btit especially at the principal
western points
A Brilliant Wedding.
At 8:80 o’clock last evening, at the
residence of the bride’s parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Jr. cob Ramser, corner of Forsyth
and Barbour streets, Mr. Luther C. Bell
and Miss Emma G. Ramser, were united
in the holy bonds of wedlock, Rev. R. L.
Adams, of Americus, officiating.
The attendants were: Mr. G. L. Zuca-
rello, of Montgomery, and Miss Viola
Bell, of Americus; Mr. Major L. Ramser,
of Eufaula, and Miss Etta Redding, of
Uuthbcrt; Mr John Shiver, of Americus,
and Miss Mamie McXiel, of Columbia;
Mr. W. P. Wallis, of Americus, and Miss
Irene Shropshire, of Eufaula; Mr. J. W.
L. Daniel, of Americus, and Miss Dovie
Dudley, of Mobile; Mr. U. W. McNeil, of
Ozark, and Miss Eula Lockett, of Ameri
cas. Those sweet little girls, Marie
Blair and Alice Trippe, neices of the
bride, acted as llower girls.
An hour after the nuptial ceremony, a
most elegant and sumptuous wedding
supper was enjoyed by the large assent
bly of the friends of the family and of
the wedded couple. The bridal pres
ents were numerous, very beautiful aud
some of them costly, among the lattej
being a diamond pendant of great bril
liancy and beauty, presented b\ the
groom.
Of the personel of this happily united
young couple it may not bo amiss to say
of the groom that he is one of the best
aud most popular young business men of
Americus, Ga„ pure aud upright in pri
vate life and prosperous in business.
And of the bride, the scribe cau say that
ho has known her from infancy, and
always as one of the loveliest and most
charming young ladies he ever knew. It
cannot be otherwise than that heaven
stnilcs upon the union of two such
hearts and lives, and the Advertiser,
with a host of other friends, humbly in
voke upon them all of life’s choicest
blessiugs.
It was the desire of the bride that she
take to her new home a group photo
graph of the bridal party, that she
might have about her the features of
life-loug and intimate personal friend
Hence to secure this photograph the
wedded couple and attendants from
abroad are still in the city, and will not
leave until to-morrow morning. The
happy pair will spend a few days at the
exposition in Atlanta, and will then re
turn to Americus,—Eufaula (Ala.) Ad
vertiser.
The many friends of Mr. Bell in this
city will rejoice with him in his newly
found happiness and join with Tiik
Timks-Rkcokdkh in wishing for the
popular groom aud his charming bride
long years of happiness and prosperity.

Earth has no greater joy than the dis
covery of a quarter in a cast-off vest
pocket.
Physicians’ prescriptions have failed
to reach many cases of rheumatism
known to have been subsequently cured
by Salvatiou Oil. That is the reason
why the popular voice is practically
unanimous in its favor. One bottlo is
usually sufficient.
While a wildcat was attacking a doc
tor in Connecticut the other day, lie tore
open a medicine chest aud smashed a
bottle of chloroform. The fumes stu
pefied the animal and it was easily
killed.
Tax Notice.
The books aro now ready, and until
further notice I will be in my office for
the purpose of collecting the taxes from
0 o’clock a. m. to 3 o’clock p. m. every
day, except Sunday. J. B. Dunn,
octlO Tax Collector.
i Judge Walker Batts of Smlthville was
j killed Wednesday morning at bis home
| a few miles from Smithville by a fall
! from a horse which lie was riding.
; It seems that Judge Batts went on
business to town early Wednesday morn
ing, intending to go from there into the
country on business. His route led him
by his own door, and jest before reach
ing home his horse became frightened
and threw him. He did not seem to be
seriously injured,and after being thrown,
arose and walked home. His wife,
knowing that he was to pass the house
on his way into the country, was not
alarmed when he came in, and even
when he told her that he had sustained
a fall from his horse, was not seriously
uueasy.
After washing from his face the dirt
with which it was covered from the fall,
the judge told his little children to hur
ry off to school, that he was not hurt;
but one hour afterwards he was dead.
He sustained from the shock severe
internal injuries which his system was
not able to withstand, ami shortly there
after had ceased to breathe.
In Judge Batts’ death the community
iu which he lived sustains an almost ir
reparable loss, as he was a man beloved
by all and an upright and public-spirited
citizeu.
Don’t storm the system as you would
a fort. If heM by the enemy, consti
pation, gently persuade it to suriender
with DeWitt’s Little Early Risers.
These little pills aro wonderful con
vinces. For sale by the Davenport
