The following 1h clipped from the Sa vannah Morning News, from an article advocating an extemrfon of the road to Savannah: “The Sam people deny most emphat ically that there was any breach of contract on their part. The traffic agree ment they claim was broken by the Rich mond A Danville because it was jealous of the prosperity of the Sam route, which was securing much of tho busi ness formerly turned into Savannah by the Central. “,‘The troublcjbetween the two roads/ said ;» railroad man, ‘in already having its effect. The Savannah. Americus Montgomery, finding itself shut out here, lias simply begun turning its busi ness into Brunswick via the Kast Ten nessee, Virginia A’ Georgia road, with which it has through freight ar rangements. All foreign freights will be sent that way, and the attempt of the Central to cripple the Sa vannah, Americus and Montgomery, in stead of being • successful to the end aimed at, will be only instrumental in helping to reiuce the business here, “Some people seem to think that the whole thing is a game of blutf on the part of the Richmond and Danville to compel the S. A. M. to sell, “but,” said a Bay street man, “if that is the scheme of the Richmond and D»nvillo it has struck a man in Col. Hawkins who can neither be scared nor bluffed. It has always beeu a pet idea of his to have an independent line to Savannah, and the action of the big corporation will no doubt cause 1dm to lay his plans at once to get in here. He will meet with en couragement from the business men of the city.” ‘Col. Hawkins was in Baltimore yester day and was expected to start South last night. When he comes to Savannah his version of the broken contract will be given/’—Savannah Morning News. The Work of Man It Wonderful.
