Just after court ad- ! j'oirned there was an affecting scene. : Friends crowded around, and the two Howards and Bickerstalf fell on each others neck and wept. KiculAND, Ga , Nov. 18.—No happier event has ever occurred in Iticbland so ciety than that at the Baptist church to day, when our popular young Mayor, Prof. J. C. Layfield and Miss Maggie Carter were united in holy wedlock. Just at 12si0 p. m., the appointed hour, the wedding march began, which was beautifnBy rendered by Miss Jessie Forrester, and slowly up the right atste of the church proceeded Mr. F- D. Black and Dr. R. E. L. llarnum, and up the left, Messrs. G. R. Rrown and R. J. Dixon, who acted as ushers, these cross ing and taking their stand upon opposite sides under arches of evergreen inter woven with rare and lovely (lowers- Next up the centre aisle came two sweet and pretty little dower girls, Misses ChAp Savllle and Louise Lamai, who bore each a lovely bouquet of choice chrysanthemums, and opened the gate for the happy couple who immediately followed them, and then advancing to their positions on either side of the cen tral arch. As the bride and groom passed through the little gate-way through which they were never to return as lovers, but as husband and wife, they presented a lovely picture. These proceeding to their position be neath the central arch and all facing the large audience assembled, the Rev. M. B. L. Binion arose and proceeded to per form a most solemn, impressive and beautiful ceremony, which made them man and wife. After tho ceremony they were drlvon to the Richland Inn, where they received tho congratulations of rela tives and friends. At 133 p. m., under showers of rice and with tho good wishes of all, they boarded the north-bound train on tho Columbus Southern railroad and were off to spend several weeks visiting rela tives in this state and Alabama.
