News reached Americus yesterday of tho frightful death of an old negro man man named Ely Black, which occurred about seven miles from Americus. It seems that the old man was left alone in his bed in the morning, while Ills two daughters went to the field to work. When they first discovered the fire the roof was falling iD and the tongues of flame had almost enwrapped the house. They dashed to the window at the bed of the old man, who was in his nintioth year and unable to walk, and raising it attempted to rescue him from the seeth ing flames that were gradually creeping upon him, hut every lime they at tempted to puli him through the win dow ho would fall back, iiis frame being too large to squeeze through. In a few minutes his screams told them that the flames had reached their victim, and before any practical aid could be rendered him the flames had reduced his body to a charred mass of undistinguishable bone and flesh. It was a horrible spectacle; that win live in the memory of those who wit nessed it ss long as life lasts. If any person, except a disabled soldier of this state, (and ne must register every year) peddles without Unit obtaining such license, he shall forfeit to the county one hundred dollars.
