A CINDER TRACK.
Americus has for some time recog
nized the vital necessity of a race track
suitable for the purposes of horse or bi
cycle racing. Tiie TiuXS-Hkgiiiiikk
constantly urged the necessity of auch
an enterprise and pointed nut the profile
to Its promoters.
We are to have one at last!
Dr. C. Foote, a fancier of horse fleth
and a splendid veterinary surgeon, pro
poses to organize a company on the
stock plan and grade and cinder n track
one mile In length.
Tills wilt create a ripple In sporting
clvclcs, and will revive Interest In horse
racing and bicycle tournaments.
Tho doctor docs not anticipate any
trouble in organizing the company since
he has received nlready a number of
assurances of co-operation in tho enter-
prtseji.
That it will be handsomely remunera

Young Women Saw WimmI In Charily.
Twelve nf tbe moat popular young
women In Minden (Mich.) society en
gaged to contribute *1 each of money
earned by themselves to a fund for buy-
lug < 'hristma* present* for the poor. On
Tuesday they appeared st the drugstore
nf Edward Cress and asked for a job of
sawing and splitting five cords of wood
that lay at Ills door. The druggist con
sented. The spectacle of twelve young
women sawing and splitting wood col
lected a irowd in short order, but de
spite the crowd, tired muscles and blis
tered hands, theglrls persevered for two
days until the job was finished, and the
dollar each earned was turned In fnr the
poor.
The above Illustrates the |Hi**ibilltlea
of the talent of young ladle* properly
utilized. We would suggest that a
society be formed by our charitably in
clined young women and that they saw
soil split, for a stipulated sum, to be
used for benevolent purpoeea, the pile
of wood deposited weekly In front of
rof. Van Hiper**. It wilt be delightful
cxerciso if nothing more.
