They have used our furniture and it never cracked, blistered or fell down ; used
our crockery, china and glassware, and found it as represented; lit our lamps and
had good light; used our silverware and sounded its praise; bought our clocks and
never got left; bought our window-shades when they didn’t need them; bought
curtain poles for themselves and poor kin because they were so cheap; used our
knives and forks and pr.-.ised the butcher; bought our pictures and got credit for
lots of good taste ; hung > ir wall paper and didn’t know the old house.

More Money In the Product in Oeorglu
Than in Cotton.
President Herman Meyer*, of the Sa
vannah Grocery Company, yesterday
received from W. Q. and II. IL Tift,
Tifton, Ga., two elegant specimens of
tobacco leaf, which they have raised on
their farm as an experiment. The leaf
is equal to any of the products of the
tobacco raisiug countries, and proves
that Georgia’s soil is capable of produc
ing an article which, if cultivated, will
make it one of the richest agricultural
states in America.
The plug leaf is of the finest quality
that can be attained, and the cigar leaf
is of the Sumatra variety. The Sumatra
leaf is imported into this country to the
amoupt of millions of dollars annually,
and the duty on it is £2 per pound,
causing it to sell at $5 per pound in New
York.
Georgia, as shown by Tift’s samples,
can produce enougli of this variety to
meet the demands of the trnde, and if
the farmers would cultivate it instead
of cotton they would rapidly grow rich,
and soon placo Georgia in the lead of the
wealthy agricultural states of the union.
Messrs. Tift have 2 1 2 acres in cigar I 8UCCl,>i
leaf, but on account of being short of 8S1
plants, and having too much distance
between them, they aro producing only
1,000 pounds to the acre. With an im
provement, however, from 1,200 to 1,500
pounds can be an acre. They have sev
enty acres in plug leaf which will aver
age from 1,500 to 1,800 pounds per acre.
Myers examined the specimens
sent him and he said that the plug leaf
j will bring from $50 to $10 per 100 pounds,
which means that off au acre $-100 can
be realized, w bile cotton does bring but
$50 to $-40 to the acre, Figuring the
price of the plug leaf at $2 to $5 a pound
o io can sec that no other product in tho
state can compoto with it.
“1 never thought such tobacco could
be raised in Georgia,” said Mr. Myers,
“ami the practical result to mo is grati
fying. Pennsylvania has been producing
tobacco leaf for years, and many of tho
German farmers there have grown rich
by Its culture, but Pennsylvania can
show nothing to compare with what
Georgia can do in the same line.”

During the epidemic of ilux in this

People often came ten or twelve miles
in the night to get a battle of the remedy.
I have been selling patent medicines

has given better satisfaction in cases of
diarrhojea and flux than any other tnedi

Over five hundred bottles of this remedy
were sold in that county during the epi
demic referred to. It was a perfect suc
cess and was the only remedy that did
the worst cases. Dozens of persons
there will certify that it saved their
lives. In four other epidemics of bowel
complaint this remedy has been equally
