THE AMERICUS WEEKLY TIMES-RECORDER:* FRIDA1, SEPTEMBER 30,
FIRST fitlfCIPAIGN
Is Fired in Mayor’s Race
Today.
LIVELY CAMPAIGN PROMISED
Friends of Mr. John B. Felder An
nounce His Name for Mayor.
There May Be Others.
Tbe first gnn in the approaching
mnnicipai campaign is fired by tbe
friends of Mr. John B. Felder, who
aunonnoe him for mayor of Americas.
Mr. Felder coaid not be seen last
night, and Th» Times-Becordeb can*
not state whether be will yield to the
solicitations of his friends and make
the race or not. Should he do so, how
ever, he would be a strong candidate
in the field. His administration of tbe
affairs of this important office in years
past is well remembered, and should
he be again elected he would ever work
for the progress and material prosper
ity of the city.
The formal announcement of Mr.
Felder’s candidacy appears elsewhere.
But it is scarcely to be presumed
that he is going to have-a walkover by
any means It is known that at lease
two other gentlemen have their eyes
turned towards this municipal plum,
and are casting about for tbe necessary
pole with which to knock it down, and
the contest for tbe luscious prize bids
fair to become spirited ere the end of
the campaign is reached.
Besides the mayor's race, the elec
tion of three aldermen promises to de
velop considerable interest. The re
tiring members of the counoil this year
are Messrs. Gnerry, Brown and Shiver,
while the office of clerk and treasurer
is to be filled likewise for a term of two
years,

Says Democracy Will Sweep State
and Country.
Macon, Ga„ Sept 34. — Chairman
duBignon. of the s ate democratic com
mittee, arrived in tbe eity today from
New York. He said while there he
found the leaders of the demooratio
party very confident of victory this
fall. He said everybody there seemed
to be excited over tbe result, but that
the democrats seemed to be in tbe ma
jority. In speaking of the state mat
ters he said that he had not been in
the state for a week and that he did
not know how matters had been pro
gressing since his absence. He said
that he was confident that the demo
crats would carry the state by the
largest majority polled in years. Mr.
dubignon is making a splendid can
vass for his party and he is being ably
assisted by some of the most prominent
democrats in the state.
