■ Afflicted Mother
I0TH OF HER BOYS KILLED BY DISASTERS,
One Met Death, with Six Other Children, by a Cyclone while si
School, the Other, a Married Son, was Run Over by a
Railroad Train—The Mother's Health Shattered.
From th* Times, Paw Paw, ML
So much hu been nid regarding the al
most miraculous cure of Mrs. Ellen A. Oder-
kirk r of Paw Paw, III., from a serious illness,
that a reporter interviewed her and ascertained
the facts. Mrs. Oderkirk was found to be a
very genial lady about fifty years of age, and
a prominent member of the W. R. C. She
has met with many sad misfortunes in her life.
On June 20th, 1890, her younger son, Robbie,
a bright lad nine years of age, and the sun*
shine of the home, was one or seven children
who were killed in an awful cyclone while at
school. That was not the only sad experience
•. of Mrs. Oderkirk’* life, for on November 11,
2888, her only remaining child, Lewis, a mar
ried son, was run over and killed by a Burling
ton train.
Mrs. Oderkirk’s health was shattered and
she waa a constant sufferer for years. Her
principal trouble was neuralgia of the stom
ach and this was very severe. I.
The story of her complete and wonderful j nervousness
core is described in her own words, as fol ‘ ' ‘
'‘About eight yesrs tgo I was attacked
With severe pains in the stomach which
Would usually waken me from a sound sleep.
These pains were pronounced by local physi
cians to be neuralgia of the stomach. At first
the attacks occurred every two or three weeks.
* but they became more severe and I would
often suffer three or four nights in succession,
especially if I overworked or became fatigued
or excited.
"I was treated by four local physicians
for neuralgia, indigestion and nervousness,
sons of which however succeeded in giving
me any permanent relief. I beeamt dis
couraged and it seemed that I was doomed to
be a constant sufferer the rest of my life.
“About this time 1 learned that Dr. Wil
liams’ Pink Pills for Pale People contained
in a condensed form, all the elements nec
essary to give new life and richuess to the
bioou and restore shattered nerves.
“ 1 was willing to try anything tha* offered
relief, and as the pills cost only 50 cents a
box or six boxes for $2.50, and could be hud
at any druggist’*, or direct by mail from Dr.
Williams’ Medicine Co in puny. Hehenectmly.
N. Y., I supplied myself with a quantity of
them. I had not taken them two weeks
when I noticed a marked improvement in
my condition. I combined taking the pills
until I hud consumed seven or eight boxes
of them, ami I considered myself entirely
d. I can eat all kinds of food, which is
tiling i have not been aide to do for
years. I am not troubled in tlie lenst with
nervousness ns I was during the tune of my
stomach troubles.
“So far ns I know I am well and because
of Dr. William*’ Pink Pills for Pale People
a complete euro has been made.
“if anr one would like to hear more of
the details of mv suffering and relief 1 shall
be glad to have them write me.
Kli.p.s A. Oderkihk.”
Mrs. Ellen A. Oderkirk, whose name up-
?ar* in the ulxive statement personally ap
peared before me. Police Magistrate of th«
village of Paw Paw, (To. of f/*e. ami Slim* of
Illinois, this the 23rd day of June. 18P7, and
made affidavit to the above statement.

THE PROPOSED AMENDMENTS
The people of Georgia are to vote at
the approaching election on the 6tli of
Oetoberon two amendments to the
state constitution. Aa election day is
drawing near it ia proper to draw par
ticular attention to the subject.
The proposed amendmenta relate to
the election of the judges and aolici
THE PRICE OF COTTON.
The price of cotton at interior pointa
ia below 5 cents. The farmer, in other
words, is receiving less than that snm.
In some places he does not reoeive
much over $20 a bale. Onoe in the
winter of 1894-95 ootton did go a trifle
lower, bnt except in that year ootton
never brought lower prioea than it
tors of the superior courts by the pee- bringing today. The belief is wide,
pie. There are really three amend-| that the new crop will prove
ments, bnt two of them relate to the j be exceptionally heavy. This, howev
proposed changes aa to the judges,
THE NEXT SENATE.
The Baltimore San gives the proba
ble complexion of the next senate,
which is far from favorable to the dem
ocrats. On the 4th of March the terms
of thirty senators will expire, of wbioh
fifteen are democrats, eleven repnbli-
cans, and font silver republicans and
populists- The present senate is oom
posed of forty-three republicans, with
the vote of the vice-president when
there ia a tie; thirty-four democrats,
five silver republicans; seven populists
and one vacancy, that of Oregon.
In March the democrat! not only
lose more members, bnt some of their
losses oocur in states which are pretty
anre to elect republicans, while on the
other hand, the states in whioh the
terms of republican senators end are
nearly all republican. The democrats
have elected two members for the new
term: Money, of Mlasissippi, and Dan
iel, of Virginia. The republicans have
elected three: Hanna, of Ohio; Aid-
rich, of Rhode Island, and MeOomas,
of Maryland, the latter succeeding a
democrat, Indiana, New Jersey, New
York, North Dakota, West Virginia
and Wisconsin will each lose a demo
crat with the probability that eaoh of
them will be succeeded by a republi
can. The Snn thus conclndcs:
"Not many years ago the democrats
had a majority of the senate. That
majority has disappeared and the num
ber of democratic Senators ia getting
smaller and smaller. It baa almost
come to paae that democrats are sent
to the upper house only from the
southern states, and the party ia only
able to do this by reason of the race
qneation. Free silver haa wrought ba-
voo with the party. It ia not anrprite
lng that the republicans are urging the
financial issue and putting it into their
platforms. ”
SHOULD UNITE FOR DEMOCRACY
Two of the American peace commie
sionera will receive a fee of $26,090,
and the other three will get consider
ably lea*. That is because two of them
were appointed as private citizens,
whiie the other three are United States
senators, who can draw only their sen
atorial salaries of $8,000 esch and their
expense*.
Alrcadly democratic clnbs are being
organized m a number of counties^
This is aa it should be, and the exam
ple should be followed by the demo
crats of every oivii district in the state,
because nothing inanres large majors
itiea better than thorough organization.
Bnt the democrat* should bear in
mind that Col. Candler is the standard
bearer of the democratic party; and it
behooves ail democrats, regardless of
personalities, to stand by him and the
state tioket. Therefore, the proposed
organization of a Candler elnbis not
in order; the time for snoh action ia
paat. What all honeat, good demo
crats want and are aiming at ia the
snccess of the party in the state and
the strengthening of the demoera'ic
lines in the city and coanty aa well.
We have some very clever gentlemen
who dabble in politics merely to carry
ont their own selfish aims. The good
of the state, the county, the taxpayers
or the party doesn't figure in their cal
culations. Their agitation of a Can'
dler elnb now.is certainly nntimely and
Tsa Timbs-Rrcobdeb haa no hesitancy
in saying ia oalonlated to stir up strife
and hart the canse for which it would
seem to be trying to promote.
Col. Candler it the party nominee
and if elected will be the standard
bearer of the entire party. If any elnb
ia organized let it be a democratio club.
This is the sort of a club that will gain
favor with Allen D. Candler, for he is
the candidate of the people—the whole
people—and, as he haa said, represents
no cliques nor faetion. Shelve the
Candler elnb, bnt let thonsands joinjtho

crats.

Those who have never had Blood Fol'
ion can not know what a desperate con
dltlon I! can produce. This terrible
disease which the doctors are totally
unable to oure, is communicated from
one generation to another, inflicting its
taint upon countless innocent ones.
Some rears ago I was Inoculated wttli potion
by a nurse who Infected my babe with blood
taint. Tbs little one waa
unequal totbe struggle,
and Its life wae yielded
np to the fearful poison.
For six lone yean I suf
fered untold misery. 1
wae covered with sores
end ulcers from head lo
foot, and no language
can espreas my feelings
of woe during ihoee long
yean. I had the best >
medical treatment; 8ev- 1
enl physicians succea
lively treated me, but all
to no purpose. The mer
cury andf potash seemed to add fuel to the
l wild flame which was devouring me. I was
advised by friends who hail seen wonderful
cures made by It, to try Swift's Speclfle. We
got two bottles, and 1 felt hone again revive In
my breast—hope for health and happiness
again. 1 Improved from the atari, and a com
plete and perfect cure was the result. H. s.

perate cases. Mas. T. W. Liz.

Of the many blood remedies, S. S. S.

seated, violent cases. It never fails to
cure perfectly and permanently the
most desperate cases which are beyond
the reach of other remedies.
er, can not be determined before No<
vdmber. Many troubles may atill
come to it that will out abort the out
come. Bnt if to the stocks already
carried be added another great crop,
new record of low prioea may be made.
Bnt in the great erop year, 1894-95,
the staple went to a bottom price, and
then began to olimb npward. An early
frost or any considerable damage to
the erop would start prices upward,
All in all it is more than probable that
the lowest prices of the entire season
will be recorded in the next twenty
days. These prices are based in part
on the large surplus from last year
crop, and upon an expectation of
crop equalling, if not exceeding, that
of last year. Cotton mill buyers are
holding off. They are doubtless will
ing to take in 4 cent cotton.
If tho crop has been overestimated—
in other words, if it is a crop of ten
million bales instead of eleven million
or more, prices will soon turn, for the
world is prepared to take more cotton
goods than it ever took in a single year
in its entire history. Consumption ia
alert and active, and the present bear
ish tendency in the cotton markets may
be changed very suddenly and very
thoronghly. While some predict that
ootton will yet sell at 4 cents in inte
rior towns, yet all admit that as np
ward tnrn may come at any time, and
that higher prices will almost certainly
be established after Christmas.— Bir
