JHE AMBRICUS WEEKLY TIMES-RECORDER: FRIDA!, OCTOBER 14, 1893.
TBE EXCELLENCE OF SYRUP OF FIGS
is duo not only to the originality and
simplicity of the combination, but also
to the care and skill with which it is
manufactured by scientific processes
known to the California Fig Syrup
Co. only, and we wish to impress upon
all the importance of purchasing the
true and original remedy. As the
genuine Syrup of Figs is manufactured
by the California Fio Syrup Co.
only, a knowledge of that fact will
assist one in avoiding the worthless
imitations manufactured by other par
ties. The high standing of the Cali
fornia Fig Syrup Co. with the medi
cal profession, and the satisfaction
which the genuine Syrup of Figs has
given to millions of families, makes
the name of the Company a guaranty
of the excellence of its remedy. It is
far in advance of all other laxatives,
as it acts on the kidneys, liver- and
beads without irritating or weaken
ing them, and it does not gripe nor
nauseate. In order to get its beneficial
effects, please remember the Dame of
the Company —

Candler’i Majority More Than 550 as
Is That of Entire State and Coun
ty Ticket-Only 110 Popu
list Votes for Hogan.
The democratic victory in Sumter on
Wednesday was eveu greater than esti
mated at the time the polls closed. It
was a landslide and buried populism
in this county beneath an avalanche of
good, demo.ratio ballots, Governor
Candler leading Populist Ilogan by
050 votes, while all the other democrat
ic nominees did equally as well.
The vote of the nino precincts in the
county wa3 consolidated yesterday
morning, and the result is as follows:
For governor Mr. Candler received
072 votes, Hogan 110. About the same
proportion was maintained in the bal
ance of the state ticket, Treasurer
Speer and Compt-ol'er Wright receiv
ing 074 votes each against 112 for their
popnlist opponents. Hon. O. B Stev
ens voto was 073 against 112 for Popu
list Talley. The vote for supreme court
justices was the same as that for gov
ernor, 072. The popnlist vote was per
haps the smallest ever polled by that
rarty in any election here.
The proposed constitutional amend
ments went through in a whirl, there
being 771 votes for ratification to only
50 aguiust.
The victory for the county ticket
was quite as decisive as that for gov
ernor and state house officers. For
the senate Hon. W. A. Dodson receiv
ed 009 votes to 109 for his populist op
ponent, Dr. Clark. Schley and Macon
connties likewise gave him flattering
majorities. For the lower house Hon
W. T. Lane received 004 votes and Hon.
C. Speer 052, while their popnlist
opponents, Messrs. G. H. Seig and
W. M. Pilcher, received 110 and 110
respectively.
The sheriff's race was quite as decis
ive as that for the other offices. Sher
iff McArthur received 054 votes against
123 given his opponent, Mr. Henry H.
Glover. For clerk of oenrt Judge J.
H. Allen received 077, the highest vjte
cast, thongh he bad no opposition.
For tax collector the voto stood, J.
B. Dnun 001, P. O. Thiesen St), J. Day
Stowart 09. For tax receiver J. P.

Work 3egias Immediately.
With the formal removal of the com
pany’s official headquarters from Amer
icas to Savannah the Goorgia & Ala
bama proposes to build a great
terminal system in that city, or rather
upon Hutchinson’s island immediately
opposite, and to this end there will be
incorporated the Georgia & Alabama
Term’ual Co. capitalized at 81,300,000
Ine city of Savannah has granted
the concession desi.-ed, and work upon
the proposed improvements will begin
immediately.
The purpose of the company is to
have its own terminals, wharves and
warehouses instead of using the Cen
tral’s, as at present. For some time
petitioners have bad experts quietly
looking over the field, and after a thor
ough investigation it was decided the
island offered the best facilities.
Prior to making their purposes
known the petitioners obtained all nec
essary wharf room on tee island, and
the : r purpose now is to get 500 acres
owned by the city.

A New System Has Recently Been
Introduced.
A new postoffice law now in effecl
widens the scope of the money order
system by allowing a temporary depos
it of fnnds for safe keeping, and can
be issued payable at tho office issuing
them. A farmer .can get a postoffice
money order to pay bills or tradesmen
in town ten miles distant, or in cities
they can be used similar to checks.

Great Eyesore in Hotel Park is Re
moved at Last.
Heraarka’qlo us it may seem, the
hotel park is at last to be cleared of
the rank weeds and rubbish that has
disfigured it for six months past, thus
rendering it a blot upon nature instead
of the place of beauty it otherwise
could be. Yesterday the work of.clear-
ing up the park began nud within a
day or two it will be possiblo to soe the
courthouse or city ball from the oppo
site side of the block, whilo tbe wild
beasts, bats and owls that have in
fested the place will escape to Mucka-
lee swamp and citizens will no longer
find it necessary to carry guns for
defense wnlle traversing the park.
Aud still more remarkable to rela.e,
the grass is to be mowed for tbe first
time in a year and tho fountain set
playing again. No wonder if it rained
yesterday; a cycloae would haro oc
casioned no surprise,
