IDE EXCELLENCE OF SYBUP OF FIGS
is duo not only to the originality and
simplicity of the combination, but also
to the care and skill with which it is
manufactured by scientific processes
known to the California Fio Svrup
Co. only, and we wish to impress upon
all the importance of purchasing the
true auil original remedy. As the
genuine Syrup of Figs is manufactured
br the California Fio Syrup Co.
oily, a knowledge of that fact will
assist one in avoiding the worthless
imitations manufactured by other par
ties. The high standing of tho Caii-
fornia Fio Syrup Co. with the medi
cal profession, and the satisfaction
which tiie genuine Syrup of Figs has
given to millions of families, makes
the name of the Company a guaranty
of the excellence of its remedy. It is
far ia advance of all other laxatives,
as it acts on the kidneys, liver and
bowels without irritating or weaken
ing them, and it does not gripe nor
nauseate. In order to get its beneficial
effects, picase remember the name of
the Company —

NINE HUNDRED BALESCOTTON
RECEIPTS POR SATURDAY QUITE
SATISFACTORY.
More Than 900 Bales Marketed in
Americus Yesterday, and Total
Warehouse Receipts Now
Exceed 16,000 Bales.
Americns warehousemen handled jnst
90o bales of cotton Saturday.
And this does not include sevorai
hundred bales shipped direct to the
compresses from other points, which if
added, would run tho day’s receipts
above the 1,200 mark. The 005 bales
came mostly by wagon from Sumter
and contiguous counties.
It was sold hore-the greater part of
it--during the day, and the proceeds
wonttowards paying hank notes, gnano
notes, supply bills and in tho purchase
of dry goods, groccrios. shoes, etc.
But it went into local channels of
trado, this $20,000, and evory merchant
and business man derived Bomo benefit
therefrom,
Saturday’s cotton receipts runs the
total number of bales handled by ware
houses here to 10,145. To this should
be added perhaps 5,000 received at the
compresses direct, making tlio grand
total moro than 21,000 bales received
here thus far,
Americns will handle not less than
50,000 bales of cotton this season.
If |tho staple only brought a fair
price farmers could pay up their in
debtedness, merchants wonld have «
better trade, and altogether a season of
prosperity would dawn upon this sec
tion. But with cotton selling at 4} to
4j cents, tho ontlook for the farmer is
by no means encouraging.

Troops In the South.
Washington. Oct. 14.—Major Gen
eral Sumner, who received his promo
tion for gallantry iu the battle of* San*
tiago, will soon bo eent to one of the
corps in the south and given command
of a division. General Sumner is
present chief mustering officer for Penn
sylvania, but was at the war depart
ment yesterday and expressed his pref
erence for service with the soldiers.
General Snuiner has given his attem
non to the subject of the caro of soidiera
in southern climates and is of the opin
ion that some such system for troops in
southern climates as Great Britain em
ploys ought to be adopted. With his
command in Cuba was a captain in tho
British army, who told him that the
troops in Iudia and other tropical cli
mates were inspected every day by an
English officer to make sure that, they
were wearing the flunuol belt next their
skins end also a pad on the back of thei:
necks.
lhis was regarded by the medical
officers of the army as a great protec
tion against diseases incident to tropical
coun trios.
