THE AMEBIUUS WEEKLY TIMES-EECOEDEK: FRIDAY OCTOBEE 28, 189

THE EXCELLENCE OF SYBUP OF FIGS
is duo not only to the originality anti
simplicity of the combination, but also
to the care and skill with which it is
manufactured by scientific processes
known to the California Fig Svbup
Co. only, and we wish to impress upon
all the importance of purchasing the
true and original remedy. As the
genuine Syrup of Figs is manufactured
by the California Fio Sunup Co.
only, a knowledge of that fact will
assist one in avoiding the worthless
imitations manufactured by other par
ties. The high standing of the Cali
fornia Fig Svrup Co. with the medi
cal profession, and the satisfaction
which the genuine Syrup of Figs has
given to millions of families, makes
the name of the Company a guaranty
of the excellence of its remedy. It is
far in advance of all other laxatives,
as it acts on the kidneys, liver anil
bowels without irritating or weaken
ing them, and it does not gripe nor
nauseate. In order to get its beneficial
effects, please remember the name of
the Company —
CALIFORNIA FIG SYRUP CO.

A Sable Benedict Tires of Strife In
Married State.
A fair specimen of the country dar
key ambled into the office of Jndge A.
Meeting of Committee On !?££.*££&
asked the judge for a divorce and the-
sum of $1,50 previously paid for a
marriage license. Judge Speer told
the nnfortuuato that he was entirely
out of divorces, having just sold the
last one in stock, as the demand for
seyerauce papers was brisk at this
season. The negro explained that
haring bought his marriage license of
Judge Speer six years ago bethought
a divorce conld be obtained as easily
and the price of the license refunded
as well. The jndge enlightened the old
cuff upon the subject of marriage and |
divorce, and like Peter of old he went
out and wept bitterly.

buck, breasts,
shoulders,sides
hips and limbs,
but they need
not sutler.
These pains nre symptoms of
dutigcious derangements that

strual function should operate
painlessly.

cate m :j>trual organs in condi
tion to do their work properly.
And that stops all this pain.

ARTISTIC
EFFECTS.
All
Lengths.
The foithcomiug election for mayor,
clerk and treasurer and three memberB
ofjthe city council iH already command-
a fair ahare of public attention,
aud when the average citizen is uot
talking of the coming of the troops to
Americua the conversation naturally
drifts to a debate upon affairs munici
pal. Just now this subject is one of
fruitful and animated discussion.
"Who will bo mayor of Amcricus for
the next two years" is a <inestiou often
asked, and as often unanswered.
There will scarcely be a lack of ma
terial to select from, in view of the fact
that there will be three or four aspi
rants for this distinguished honor be
fore the people. Already friends of
Capt John B. Felder have shied his
castor into the ring, and predict suc
cess for him. But there are others to
be reckoned with in tho persons of
Capt. John A. Cobb, Jadge W. F.
Clarke and the present iucumbent,
Hon. James A. Htxon, two of whom,
at least, will be in the arena beyond
auy doubt.
A triangular, or possibly a qnadran
gular race for the mayoralty would bo
a decided innovation aud afford oppor
tunity for a vide range among the un-
terrified wielders of the ballot.
Matters will probably remain in
statu quo until the city democratic
committee meets about November 10th
and orders the primary election. This
committee consists of Messrs. John H.
McKenzie, J. M. Fagan, B. II, Jossey,
Arthur ltylander and F. G. Olvcr.
Usually tho primany is held ten days
or two weeks after the committee
meets, which this year would tuako the
date of olection about November 20th.
Wheu the electiou is ordered the
candidates and their frieDds will go to
work in earnest, and anything than a
dull time is assured.
Aldermen J. W. Guerry, J. W. Shi
ver aud W. E. Brown are the retiring
members of the council this year,
though it is said that one or moro of
these gentlemen will stand for re-elec
tion, as will City Clerk H. S. Davis.
These, with others perhaps, will for
mally announce their candidacy after
the primary has been called by tho city
democratic executive committee, and
then the campaign will he warmly
waged all aloug the line.
THE KNOBS O' TENNESSEE.
A Realistic Drama Laid Among the
Tennessee Mountains.
There is one scene in the "Knobs O'
Tennessee" called by the authors, L
J. Carter and Hal Reid “The whisper'
ing pines in the moonlight.” Never
has the curtain nseu on this beantifnl
piece of stage scenic art bnt that it has
been met with rapturous applause.
Knobs are the foothills of the monn
tains, aud the play taking place among
the moonshiners who live iu those re
gions one cuu readily understaud tho
scope for action audexquisito scenery,
which Mr. Carter has furnished with
luvish hand. This tiue play will bo
seen hero Friday night next.
