Democratic battle cry iu tho coming
presidential campaign is to bo ^’anti-
trusts" ai|d "anti-imperialism," or the
old slogan of "1# to 1,” will, in all
probabiliW, ho largely determined at the
conference of the national committee,
which is to bo hold at the Planter's hotol
tomorrow moruing.
At the same time it is definitely stated
by all the committeemen who bare
so far pnt in an appearance that any
recommendations which may erne from
the conference can have no binding
force ou the party at large, nor can they
in any manner be construed as the offi
cial utterances of the Democratic party.
The meeting, they assert, is not a regu
lar gathering of the committee and it
has no power other than to announce
the opinion uf those who attend It.
The entire affair is, however, assum
ing an antitrust aspect, ami so far there
have been no voices lifted iu behalf of
silver. The subject of silver is, more
over, carefully omitted from the lists of
the toasts at the dinner—which is pro-
nouncedlau "antitrust" affair pure aud
simple ’■
The fight between the Altgeld and
Harrison factions of Illinois is tho up
permost thing today. The Harrison
men are by fur more numerous aud tho
Altgeld partisans, are working hard aud
they wili make a savage effort tomor
row to have Altgeld forced from the ad
visory committee of the national com
mittee.
Their efforts will l>e directed prinoi-
pally upon this point aud if they can
obliterate the committee entirely their
happiness will bo supreme. That will
mean the passing of ex-Governor Alt
geld from power in national issues in
Illinois and the Harrisou faction will
reign supreme.

ushered iu Queen Victoria’* birthday
today. At Windsor, where a general
holiday is being observed, the town was
decorated with flags aud the church
bells were rung at 11 o'clock in the
moruing.
The weather cleared nt about 11
o’clock and a serenade by the Windsor
aud Kton amateur choral societies wat
given in the grand quadrangle of Wind*
sor castle. Tho snn then shone bril
liantly. The serouade was listened to
by the queen and members of the royal
family, including the children of the
Dnke and Duchess of Saxe-Uoburg and
tiotba, the Dnke and Dncbess of Con
naught, Prince aud Princess Christian
and Princess Henry of Battouburg.
Sir Walter Parratt, the master of the
queen's ninsic and private organist to
the qnceu, wearing his official robes,
conducted the serenade from the steps
of the qneeu’s private entrance to the
palace, jnst below the ealtroom, where
the queen was breakfasting.
The Eton college volunteer cadets
marched into the castle grounds, headed
by a band of mnilc. aud took np a po
sition in the rear of the choir. Behind
the cadets were drawn np the rest of
the Eton boys and military knights of
Windsor. The mayor aud corporation

Isidro to see on the walls of the prison

Running Fight at Uullnag.
Manila, May 24.—The Twenty-sec
ond and Twenty-third infantry, while
escorting the signal corps, whioh was
picking np telegraph wires from San
Miguel to Balinag, bad a running fight
the whole distance. They lost one man
killed and one officer and 14 men
wounded. The American troops reached
Balinag at 8 o'clock last evening. They
raptured 80 rifles and 20 men.
