ruleut type of grip that now prevails
, lD ,l tines this language in warning
,-ainst the neglect of the disease:
V ot liiuS ' s more foolish than to sup

Itself and have the victim unharmed.
Xo disease is more prolific in compli-
,„tious. Although it muy spend its
main force upon the air pa sages,
there is no organs of the body which is
jeuipt from its ravages. Hence, in
hronicling the death of many porsons
f rom what is conveniently styled “a
complication of diseasos” we note al
most as a matter of course that the
Orst decline in health dated back to a
e rip' of months or perhaps years ago.
These matters of experience should

THE SOUTHERN INDUSTRIAL
CONVENTION.
It is generally conceded that, while
the disease is very amenable to proper
eii itir treatment, there is no medi-
ic which is considered to be a specific,
i single prescription can fit every
onstitutiou. The many complex condi-
wliioh show themselves in turn
tiring the course of the malady call
or the most discriminating judgment

tilled management only can the dnn-
ruiis complications be avoided. No

It'arrbal and febrile symptoms have

A TWENTY YEARS SEIGE
Judge Fort was not requested to
tpear before tho congressional district
invention which met in Americus cn
hnrsday. Ho asked the privilege of
[Idrcssiug that committee, and con-
med nearly an hour’s time trying to
ge upon tho committee measures
hich lie thought would be conducive
his own benefit should he announce
r congress. Time should cut no fig-
with Judge Fort, for it is a well
iwn fact he has been running for
gross for the past two years. Ho
tie his announcement in the Macon

in the race to win. Time nlone

The Southern Industrial Convention
which meets in Chattauooga on Mayjl5
promises tobe]of very great importance
to this section and particularly to this
city. Philadelphia has arranged to send
a large and influential delegation of her
merchants, having two objects in view,
namely tocailtheattontiou of Southern
merchants to tho udvan'nge their city
possesses aB a market in which to pur
chase such supplies as the South needs,
nnd to try and awaken a deeper interest
in their movement to establish a steam
ship line between their city and South
A'lantic ports
The indications are now that the con
vention will be largely attended, and
that much will be said and done to
arouso the interest of the South. It is
true that the South is not asking finan
cial help to the extent she once did, bo-
cause now she has a very cousUerublc
amount of capital of her own „tbat*is
seeking investment. Tho money that
is being put into cAton mills jin the
South is being almost entirely’sub
scribed by Southern farmers, merchants
an 1 capitalists. And there is a great
deal more that is waiting an oppor
tunity for investment. In about a 1
p irts of the South the banks have
plenty of monev—more, in fact, than
they enn loan at tho legal rate.of inter
est.
But that is no reason why the South
should not take a doe]) interest in the
Chattanooga convention, which willfbe
largely mado up of.Southern meo, and
there will be on opportunity there for
tho discussion of many things which
will bo helpful to those who are en
gaged in developing the South’s iudus
trial interests.
It might be well for our business
mon to take some action as to baring
Americus represented at this conven
tion. The Tiuies-Reeorder trusts some
one of our representative citizens will
attend tho'meeting.

Frankfort, Ky., March 30. — Ex*
Chief Justice Janies H. Lewis, chairman
of tho commission selected by tho le^is*

ward fund, has made the following state
ment concerning the story sent out from
Winchester that Attorney James An
drew Scott had proposed to the relative*
of H. E. Youtsey to give him a portion
of the reward money for a confession of
the details of the conspiracy to assassi
nate Governor Goebel:
“The money appropriated by the lcg<

ning down tho assassins of Governor
Goeliel and bringing them to justice Mil]
bo distributed as provided at tho first
meeting of the reward commission, so
much for the conviction of each acces
sory.
“The preliminary work is in the hands
of Commonwealth’s Attorney Franklin
and no private citizen has* authority
from Mr. Franklin or from the commis
sion to offer rewards for confessions of
alleged accessories. Not a cent- of tho
$4,100 has yet been spent and I thiuk
you can safely say that not a dollar of it
will be paid for confessions.

Louisville, Mari’li 29.—Governor

While here tho governor made a state
ment as to his probable conrso in tho
event that the derision of the court of
appeals is against him. While it has
been generally understood thnt the Re
publicans would not surrender tho statu
offices on tho judgment of that court
nothing official has heretofore been given
out on tho subject. Said Governor
Taylor:
“The conrt of npjicnls has not yet
taken up the case and any announce
ment from me as to my action after their
decision would be premature. The agree
ment of tho attorneys for both sides,
however, states specifically that there is
to he no movement until the caso is
finally settled by the supreme court of
tho United States, and I thiuk I will act
by this agreement in every step I take,
and not give up any of the rights I hold
