Conferees Agreed Upon All Differences
Between Two Houses Except Nevada
Claim — Appropriation Bills ’Acted
Upon at Last Moment.
Washington, June 6.—The members
of both branches of congress looked tired
and wan as they reassembled for the
closing session after their arduous work
of yesterday and last night, tbe house
meeting at 8 o’clock and the senate al
10 o’clock.
The senate held a short executive
sion at 1l-:30 o’clock, after which com
fereuce reports on the civil sundry ap
propriation bill, the naval academy and
the general deficiency bills were pre
sented and adopted.
The sundry civil bill was a complete
agreement except the item relating to
Nevada claims. The naval conferees
wero dead locked on the armor plate
provision. Tliero was a complete a
ment on the deficiency bill. The
tary academy bill was passed and sent
to the president.
The nsnai routine business of the sen*
ate was practically abandoned. Only
two or three new bills were presented.
Air. Carter secured the passage of a
bill providing for the increase to $875,.
000 of the limit of the building at He
lena, Mon.
Mr. Allison reported from the com-
mitteo on appropriations the honse con
ference resolution providing for final
adjournment at 8 o'clock.
Mr. Halo presented a conference re
port on the naval appropriation bill. It
was a disagreement on all questions that
have been in dispute for three or four
days. Mr. Hale explained that the
armor plate question was the. great
stumbling block to agreement.
Mr. Penrose then offered the follow
ing resolution:
•‘Tliat the secretary of the navy is
hereby nnthorized to procure by contract
armor of the best quality for any or all
vessels above referred to, provided snch
contracts can be made at a price
which is now, in its judgment, reas
onable and equitable, bat in case
he is unable to make contracts for
armor under the abovo conditions, ho is
hereby authorized find directed to pro
cure a site for and erect thereon olfac
tory for the manufacture of armor, anil 1
the sum of $-1,000,000 is hereby appropri
ated for the erection of said factory."

has not been accepted. The mobs have
murdered the English missionaries, Rob
inson and Norman, add mutilated and
disemboweled the bodies. The station
at Yan Tin, 8 miles from Peking, has
been burned. The British minister, Sir
Clande M. McDonald, is reported to bo

civil bill was then reported, showing the
item covering the claims of Nevada to
be tho only one in dispute. Among the
important items struck ont were those
for tho memorial bridge across the Po
tomac river; for a revenue entter on the
St. Mary's river, and a lighthouse‘vessel
for the Pacific coast; for a branch sol
dier’s home in Idaho; salary of woman
commissioner at the unveiling of La
fayette’s statue in Paris; legation build,
ings in Korea and Siam and state* of
Bochambean.
The Mississippi and Columbia tfcq,:,'
were retained, the Mississippi item for
lowcpriver being reduced to $2,250,000.
Mr. Cannon explained that the senate
had udded about $9,000,000 to tbe origi
ual $01,000,000 of this bill and by this
report tbo senate yielded about $l,Q0O,-

from the navy department the battle
ship Massachusetts and Indiana, at the
