Kiel, June 23.—A rumor is current
in naval circles here that a German
cruiser has forced ouo Chinese ship
ashore and captured another and that
oO Chinese were killed and several
wounded.
Shanghai, June 23.—Priuco Tuan has
taken charge as general-in-chief, after
dismissing Yung La, a nephew of the
emperor, former commander-in-chief.
Prince Tuan gave notice that he would
inarch to Tien Tsin and sweep out the
hand full of foreigners there. At day
light on the morning of June 21 he at
tacked the settlements at Tien Tsin with
artillery and the best of the general
drilled troops. The Chinese army had
about 45 Krupps.
They managed to burn the United
States consulate. The warehouse and
the Standard Oil company's premises
are believed to have escaped.

Quitman, Ga., Juue 23.—An accident
occurred at Pidcock which cost one life
and considerable loss of property. A
freight train backed into the siding to
allow another train to pass and failed to
clear the main line. Tho other freight,
train ran into the standing train, tear
ing up several cars and turning tho mov
ing engine over on its side. The engino
struck first- a car of lumber aud tele
scoped it with a box car. A tramp was
stealing a ride on tho lumber car aud
was killed.
Passenger trains wero delayed five or
six hours.

bombarded for three days. The British
