eLunathm ami wit.i a display of cuthnsi-
asm domoustrating harmony in party
ranks and an li-an *sty in Democratic
victory.
A platform splendidly American, mag
nificently Democratic: in every sentence
given a remarkable reception.
A recv>rd breaking day ns conventions
go—such a day. taken as a whole, as uj
•tlier coiiventi >u has ever known.
From the beginning of the morning
session until the <1 iso at night, there
ivas never u chill moment. Nowhere
else in the world ami at no time Inis'
there been such a continuous, spoctatie-
a ds outburst of enthusiasm—honest eu-
aasiasm from the heart. There was
nothing of the maunfuclured urtick* in
all this.
The presentation of Bryan’s name and
ike nnuouncement of his nomination
were greeted hy outbursts of the same
aharaetc r as when Chairman Richardson
WILLIAM D. OLDHAM.
No Matter How Small the Price is
In My Store, the Quality is Right I
''pH ERE isn’t a single solitary
piece of furniture in the
place of which I am ashamed.
Nothing can go out or my doors unless satisfaction goes with it, If I can’t please my
patrons in every way, I prefer not sell at all. Buying
is a big item of expense. It is better to take your time about it and look around for
the best store. It is better to spend a little time in making selections than to spend
a long time in regret after you buy. My proposition is to serve you better than any
body else, both as to quality and price. That is the basis on which I ask your trade.
May I have it ? Give me a chance and will prove it.

[Who Nom'naied W. J. Bryan.]
ffrst mentioned his name to the conven
tion, Perfect pandemoniums of happi
ness and joy were these.
Nor was the personal tribute paid Hill
of New York, unexpected. Tho efforts'
of the convention to get llill to the front j
before this indicated what the delegate!
Wonld do if they were given the chance.
But there were two outbursts of par- HOW
tiyojar significance, two that were not
among ahe expected. One of the so was I
over Webster Davis, recently a favored
son in the McKinley household, who
made a brilliant and fervid speech re- 5 a/ I] {%., , « i, c

TO MAKE MONEY*
A BOOK ENTITLED,
McKinlevisxn, and declaring for Bryan,
Tho other unexpected demonstration!
was that over the platform. Nobody ex
pected much in tho demonstration line J
over the platform, but the unexpected
happened. To Senator Tillman fell the
lot of reading the platform,- and splen
didly did ho perform tho task. ' Closj
attention was paid to every sentence.
There was liberal applause up to thu
paragraph defining the party’s position
against Republican imperialism. As thu |
reading of that, with its climax declar
ing this to be the paramount issue of tho
campaign, was completed, there fol
lowed an outburst which can only bode*
icribed as mnrvolous. No other word
fits the cam*. That vast audience broke
into a paroxysm of enthusiasm mani
fested in every conceivable way. In an
iustant 20,000 flags flashed in the air ami
for half an hour there was a wonderful
display of patriotic fervor over this mag
nificent utterance of Democratic policy.
Oldham of Nebraska, who presented
Mr. Bryan's name, has rather a tragiu
Biaune *, but former Senator Hill was tlitJ
dramatic figure among those who macld
seconding speeches, but bis was by no
means the only good speech.

The local dei’.i oust rat ion in honor of
Mr, Bryan, while it was slow in start
ing, reached respectable proportions at
midnight, when a marching party
formed aud with bauds paraded t) the
Bryan home and serenaded t lie presi
dential nominee. The Bryan telephone
ivas kept ringing late into t!i night by
friends who wished to offer congratula
tions. Many telegrams from a distauee
were received.
Mr. Bryan was asked what effect he
thought the adoption of the pint form
in its present form would have on tho
Tice presidential nomination. He re
plied that it might tend to eliminate
some candidates who would have re
mained in the contest had the pki'form
