however, “a burn child dreads fire, ” you know. So an oft
humbugged buyer is shy of being humbugged again. This

Sumter will not be numbered among
the Georgia counties that show un in
orease this year in property value^,
though it had been put down among
those that wonld probably show a very
considerable gain.
In fact, it is not likely that the fig
urea of this year’s tax digest will reach
last year’s returns, when the property
values aggregated 14,748,578. Tax
Collector Dunn and Receiver Itaiford
have not yet completed their work of
making up the digest, though Iieeeirer
Raiford thinks it will show a decrease.
Two items alone will cut oil more
than a hundred thousand dollars.
The plant of the Virginia-Carolina
Chemical Co., partly destroyed by fire
last winter, was formerly returned at
£55,000 and will not be included in this
year's digest, tbns catting it short
that amount.
One of the locoi hanks, it is said, has
pnt £40,000 of its capital and surplus in
Government bonds as an investment,
and as these are non-taxable the digest
shows a decrease to that extent, These
two items alone, it will be seen, will
cat down onr total more than gie hun
dred thousand dollars'
Aside from these, however, the re
turns ore nearly up with last year’s.
The returns of lands and stock, Col
lector Dnnn says, are fatly as large as
in 1800, and other property will proba
bly show fall valae in the aggregate.
Ho has not yet made np the digest,
and nntil this is done an aotnal com*
parison with last year’s tax returns
cannot, of course, be mode, bnt it will
be a little short.

After many intricate experiments,
scientists have discovered methods for
obtaining all the natural dlgeitants.
These have been combined In the pro

nnlted with subatanoes that build np
the digestive organs, making a com
