Washington, Aug. 11.—The follow
ing cablegram has been received a? the
navy <!• partm-mt from Admiral Remey,
dated Che Foo
"Chaffee telegraphs fnm front:
" ‘Yang Tsun was occupied Au;
casualties about GO in my command.
Two marines wounded. Many pros
trated by heat and fatigue; next mov
yet unknown. *
"General commanding British a
drout telegraphs:
" ‘Marched from Pie Tsang 9 miles
toward Yang Tsun on the right, Rus
sians on tho left; after a rapid advauce
of 3 miles under a hot rifle and shell firo
our troops carried the first lino of de
fense. Casualties about 50 killed or
death from sunstroke.’ ”
The cablegram of Admiral Remey,
transmitting the report of General Chnf-
feo as to the battle of Yang Tsun, to
gether with the report of General Gar^
loe, the English commander at tho
front, contains few details not already
known. General Gaselee's report shows
that the Chinese occupied trenches and
that the foreign forces were coinpolled
to assault them. Finally, after forming
their line, the allies were obliged to
charge o*<or a stretch of territory 3 miles
in extent, directly into the teeth of tho
Chinese rifle and shell fire.
Perhaps the most important statement
in the dispatch is the one to tho effect
that the next move of the allies is as yet
unknown.
It is known that the commanders of
the allied forces when they arranged for
the advance from Tien Tsiu, agreed to
make Yang Tsun the objective. This
statement was contained in General
Chaffee’s dispatch outlining tho plan of
tho advance movement. It is presumed,
therefore, that having carried out suc
cessfully the plan for the movement as
far as Yang Tsun, tho commanders of
the allies \yill have to go into consulta
tion again to decide on tho further
course of the advauce from that point to
Peking.

CONGER AGAIN HEARD FROM
While the Message Hears Xo Date It
Contains Gratifying News.
Washington, Aug. 11.—The follow
ing dispatch, communicating an addi
tional message from Minister Conger,
was made public this morning by the
state department. It is saut from Can
ton by Consul Me Wade:
"A message from Conger, dated Aug.
10, answering my message, says that the
legations are under siege by the impo-
rial soldiery. The situation is desper
ate. The Tossos of the legations is 00
killodjand about 100 wounded. There is
»omo sickness, nevertheless the general
health continues good.” He concludes:
"Whatever may be the outcome, wo
will hold on indefinitely.”
It is believed that the date assigned
this dispatch by tho consul refers to the
field date when the message left Tsinan
and does not fix tho timo when it left
Peking by courier.

sian minister at the Chinese capital,
from Peking Tho dispatch was evi

The message then announces that the
czar’s approval has been given for M.
De Giers to start fur Tien Tsiu with his
entire staff and the marine guard, on
condition that the existing government
at Poking and the emperor afforded
them sure guarantee that the journey
can be undertaken without danger. At
