Emergency Committee Meets to Dis
cuss the Cotton Situation.
London, Sept. 0.—The Manchester
Guardian says that tho situation in tho
cotton market, arising from tho small
available supply of raw material, has
created auxiety among mill men. A
meeting of the emergency committee of
tho Federated Cotton Spinners' associa
tion was held to consider the situation
and another meeting will bo held, to
which all spinners using American cot
ton will be invited.
Representatives of firms attending aro
to be asked to get authority to vote in
favor of a resolution pledging the firms
interested that no American cotton shall
bo bought during September. Should
tho resolution bo carried the effect would
be to stop the mills of spinners not
having stocks of raw cotton.

President Mr Aden of the Cotton Spin-

Charlotte, N. C., Sept, f,.—Prcsi-
dent J. H. McAden of the Southern
Cotton Spinners’ association, in an in
terview relative to the proposed curtail
ment of production, said:
T cannot give any figures as to the
probable curtailment, bat I am certain
that tho output will bo grently reduced.
In fact some mills have ulready shut
down altogether, while others are run
ning on short time, and still others only
operating a portion of their spindles.
The membership of the Southern Cotton
Spinners’ association now represents 70
per cont of tbe cotton mills of the south,
and I have reason to believe thnt all of
them will curtail their production, for
the next two months, as much ns possi
ble. The object of the mill mon will be
to so arrange their work in the plants
so ns to employ as much of their labor
ns can bo utilized witnout turning out
tho full amount of goods. This may be
done by operating only a yiart of the
machinery In each milL
