tbe Prisoner’s Sanity.
Georgetown, Ky., Oct. 20.—“Wo,
tho jury, find the defendant guilty, and
fix his punishment at life imprison
ment.”
This is the verdict returned by the
men who were selected to try Henry E.
Yontzoy, one of the principals in the
murder of William Goebel.
When tho jury was called this morn'
ing Judge Cuntrill asked:
"Gentlemen, have yon made a ver
dict?"
The foreman, R. M. McCabe, nodded
his head.
“Pass up tho papers to tho clork,
said the judgo.
The foreman passed them np and the
olerk read tho following verdict:
“We, tho jury, find tho defendant
gnilty and fix his punishment at confine
ment in tho penitentiary for life.”
“Gentlemen, is that your verdict?"
asked the judge.
“It is,” wus tho reply.
“Gentlemen, you art* now finally dis
charged, and you can call on the trus
tees of tho jury fund for yoar pay, " said
the judgo to the jury.
Tho jury walked out and the trial
was at an end.
It was learned from ono of the jury,
men that not one ballot was taken last
night, though it was practically agreed
that a verdict of guilty would be found,
ThiB morning tho vote was unanimous
that he was guilty; thou tho degree of
rauishment was fixed, but on this the
; ury was somewhat divided but finally
agreed on tho lifo sentence.
Tho attorneys for the defense present
ed a motion for an arrest of judg
ment, which was sustained.
Of course an appeal can bo taken also,
bnt it need not be prosecuted till after
February, in caso tho motion for arrost
of judgment is sustained. It is likely a
jury will be empanelled as soon ns prac
ticable to inquire into Youtsey's sanity.
Judge CantriU sot the motion for a
hearing at tho February term and Yont-
zey will not be sentenced until next
year, if then. On the judge’s own mo
tion, he entered an order to have Yout-
zey moved to the Frankfort jail for safe
keeping.
