“I am glad to learn that the strike is
settled. The fact that tho mon have so-
cared an ndvanco is not only gratify
ing bnt it shows that there was jast
cause for their complaint. Bnt tho fact
that thoy wero idle a month and that
the consumers of coal have hod to pay
a higher price for tho coal which was
the enuso of the strike, shows how im
portant it is to havo arbitration for the
settlement of tho difficulties between la
bor and capital. A jast system of arbl
tration would have secured to the mi
nors tho advantage which thoy have
gained, and probably a still greator ad
vantage without the loss which thoy
suffered it won also have saved tho
public tho loss wuich hns boon visited
