Castle.
After a residence of several years in
fbc county prison Sheriff McArthur,
*bo retires from office at tho end of his
ferm ia December, moved yesterday to
his handsome homo on Taylor street.
Hberiir-elect Bell, who succeeds Sherifl
McArthur, will occupy the residence
i ortion of the jail shortly, removing to
tbe city from his anbnrban home in
Peeton.
Thursday, Nov. 22nd, is the date
nied by tho city Democratic Execu
tive Committee for tho primary elec
tion for the nomination cf mayor,
clerk and treasurer and aldermen.
Three members of tho committee,
constituting a quorum, met yesterday
for this purpose. These wore Messrs.
Arthur llyisnder, B. H. Jossey and F.
G. Olver. The absentees, who are
now non-residents if Americas, were
Messrs. J. M. Fagan and John H. Mc
Kenzie.
Thursday, Nov. 22nd, was tho date
fixed for the primary election.
This, in tbe opinion of the commit
tee, will afford ample time for a cam
paign, being nearly two and a half
weeks.
However, the campaign has been
really going on for some time alroady,
as throe of the candidates for mayor
announced some time ago, while some
of the unannounced aldermanio oandi
dates have been putting in a lot
quiet work for quite a while.
Now all can come ont in tbe open
and go to work in earnest.
With four candidates In the field for
mayor, and fully as many more for al-
demon, the race is going to be lively.
Clerk Davis is the only one playing
lone hand.
The primary on 22nd inst. will bo
held ander the samo rales governing
former primaries. All qualified Dem
ocrats, including tho very few negroes
who have steadfastly voted this ticket,
will bo entitled to vote in the primary
for mayor, aldermen and oity olerk.
This rale and the same conditions
obtained in the primary two years ago.

Little Robert Hollis Died on Sunday
Afternoon.
The entire community deeply sympa
thizes with Mrs. Enla B. Hollis and
Mr, and Mrs. U. S. Lockett, her par-
ents, in tho death of Mrs. Hollis’ little
son, Robert, which occurred on Ban-
day afternoon. The little fellow, the
idol of bia mother and grandparents,
had been ill for some time, tbongh it
was fervently hoi o 1 that ho might he
spared to bring continued sunshine in
to tboir lives. A bright aod manly little
fellow of three years, his nntimely tak
ing away is sad indeed. The funeral
services yesterday afternoon, conduct
ed by Rev, B. C. Dean, were bcantifnl
and tononing, many friends attending.
