THE 4MER1CUS WEEKLY TIMES-REOORDER: FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 16, 1900.
CITY PRIMARY DRAWS HEARER
And Isme Between Aspirants Will
Be Settled.
The near approach of the city elec
tion can8es renewed interest in that
direction and the popular query one
still hears is “who’s going to he elected
mayor and aldermen?"
Bat as nobody knows, the question
remains unanswered.
Four aspirants for the mayoralty
keeps interest at a high pitch, and as
all the candidates are well known citi
zens and ‘‘in to the finish” the battle
of ballots will be spirited.
But at the same timo attention is di
rected towards the aldermanic camp,
whero surprises in the way of an
nouncements are expected.
Two candidates for this office have
announced, but there are others.
One who professes to have “a lead
pipe cinch” on the situation declares
that at least six good and true oitizens
will be in the aldermanio race when the
gong sounds.
At the recent meeting of the city ex
ecutive committee, held for the pur-
pose of fixing the date of the primary,
it was likewise determined who the eli
gible voters on 22nd might be.
All known democrats who have here
tofore affiliated with the party, and
who have paid their taxes for last year,
may vote.
The payment of city taxes for this
year is not required.
There are a dozen or fifteen colored
citizens, lifelong democrats, who have
always voted in eity democratic prima
ries, and these will be allowed to vote
this year as usual.
And until the polls close on Thnrs-
day, 22nd inst, the raco is going to be
lively.

Trust to Make Advance All Along
the Line.
The first chapter to be written in the
“oontinned prosperity” schedule is a
heavy advance made by the meat trust,
which aided in the election of MeKin-
ley. Americas dealers were notified
yesterday of an advance of one cent per
pound on beef, pork and mutton, and
consumers will pay more accordingly,
It la said tbat this seemingly small ad
vance of one cent per ponnd will odd
, thirty-nine million dollars annually to
the inoomo of the meat trust. And
that’s wbat’s the matter with Hanna.
