Amerions will decide who shall be
chief ezeoutive for the next two years,
dating from Janaary 1st, 1901, and will
likewise eleot a oity clerk and treasurer
and three members of oonnoil.
Who the lnoky ones will be still re
mains an open question.
It is by far tbe livliest campaign
Amerions has bad in several years, and
it now seems to be “any man’s raoe”
until the votes are oonnted end the re
sult annonnoed.
Messrs. J. B. Felder, W. P. Wallis,
W. F. Clarke and H. D. Watts are the
fonr annonnoed candidates for mayor,
though strenuous efforts have been
made, and are still being made
friends of some of these gentlemen,
indnoe two of them to get ont of the
raoe.
Ibis is being done by leading prohi
bitionists of the oity, who wish to make
this again an issue in oity politics,
elsewhere.
A. half dozen meetings to this end
have been held reeently, bat it wee
stated yesterday afternoon that noth
ing definite had been accomplished.
Another meeting for this purpose was
sobednled for last night.
On the atdermanio side of the fence
everything is calm and serene. Messrs.
Lynn Fort, A. T. Oliver and W. E.
Brown are the annonnoed candidates,
bat there is every reason for believing
that several others will be in tbe raoe
long before tbe gong sounds.
In tbe meanwhile interest will in
crease as eleotion day draws nearer.

position in Tampa, Fla., that of general
superintendent of the oity’s water
works system, and with his family wil|

urer Park has notified Commissioner
of Education Glenn that the treasurer
could pay the teachers of Georgia an
other month’s saltry on Deo. 10. The
state owes tbe teaohers for three
months work, and the faet that another
payment will be. made on Deo. 10 will
be oheeifal news to the educators all
oyer the state. The payment will
amount to about (350,000. It has been
some time since the teaohers reeeived
any pay, owing to a laok of funds in
the treasury department for that pur
pose. Of this amount something like

Mrs. John E. Harris, which oconrred
Tuesday afternoon at 8 o’oiook at her

had been extremely ill for several

brought keen sorrow to the hearts of
many here. As Miss Jennie Carter
she resided in Amerions until Jnne

young woman, she easily endeared
herself to all who oame within her
presence, and her death is peculiarly
sad. She was the daughter of the late
John V. Carter, and neice of Messrs.
