THE 4MERICUS WEEKLY TIME8--REC0RDER: FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 23 , 2900
COUNCIL MAT CLOSE CONTRACT
If Committee on PiledriTer Reports
Favorably.
The City Council meets tomorrow
night, nud under the bead of unfinish
ed business will ogam discuss the pur
chase of a piledrivir. As an interested
public has already been informed, the
Council wants a piledriver, and that
badly. Tlio face of the retains does
not indicate wbat the solans are goin
to do with a piledriver, and the rumor
that it will be used in bridging over
financial problems is erroneous. It
might be used in driving piling for the
Pantone light, but this is not in need
of repairs and is already on a solid
foundation. ButCouncilyearnsyearn
Ingly for a piledriver, and will buy
cne. The arrival of the gigantio ma
chine will bo the occasion for a public
celebration and barbecue, upon which
occasion the piledriver will be put in
motion that the wondering natives here
may fully appreciate the treasure they
possess. We may differ as to politics,
marriage, corn cures and local option,
but the people of Americas, as one
man, will applaud the purchase of a
double rotary, back action, three-ply
and all -wool piledriver.
THE POPULATION OF AMERICUS.
BIG-HEAD CHILDREN
with long thin necks—you see
them in every school—want
Scott’s emulsion of cod-liver
oil, to build up their poor little
shrunken scrawny bodies.
School will be of no use to
them. Something will carry
them off.
} They have no play in them,
There is no fun in playing,
■when everybody else can run
.faster, jump further, turn round
quicker, and keep on longer.
• Big head is no harm; let the
body be big too.
Figures at Last Given Out By Con
sus Bureau
i
According to the census count of
1D00. published yesterday by the Cen
sus Bureau, the population of Ameri
cas is 7,674, while that of Sumter coun
ty is 20,212, both showing a linudsomo
increase within the decade.
And now the much discussed subj ict
is finally disposed of.
While it was believed that on- fig
ures would go a little nearer the 8,C"0
mark, possibly to 7.8.70, the showing is
not a bad one.
“Many herelbelieve there are 18,0
people in Americns, and that a very
careful connt will reveal that nnmber.

DEMAND FOB LAND INCREASES.
Snmter Will Be a Garden Spot Nest
year,
The bills and vales qf Snmter will
bloeeom next year as never before, and
there will not be an acre of available
land uncultivated. The success at
tained this year in raising wheat has
stimulated the cnltivation of that great
money crop, and a larger acreage is
now being planted here. Bigger crops
of oats and rye have likewise been
planted in Snmter. King Cotton will
not be necleoted next year, and while
good prioes bavo obtained tbia fall onr
farmers are not going “cotton crazy”
and plant the whole earth in it, by any
moans. As much or moro may be
planted as this year, but other crops
will also receive attention. In the
meanwhile there is an increased de
mand bere for farm lands, and every
little form offered finds a ready bnyer
at the best price paid for land in
many years.

to be given in at that time, hut it is not

It was the regular “American Eagle”
