It is Mayor John B Peltier and Al

reality this morning, and for the next
two years these gentlemen will assist
in shaping the affairs of Americas.
Two councils met last night, the old
and the new, the former, with Mayor
Hixon in the chair, for the purpose of
disposingof unfinished business, while
the new council, after taking the pre
scribed oath, took np the burden of
state that had fallen from the shoulders
of their very worthy predecessors.
The change was effected with the
nsaal ceremony attending.
The old council first wound up its af
fairs, after which Justice Ausley ad
ministered the oath of office to Mayor
Felder, and Aldermen G. W. Glover,
Lynu Fort, and Clerk Davis.
Aldermen Cameron was ont of the
eity last night, aud will be sworn in ou
Monday night next.
Mayor Hixon and Aldermen J. W,
Gnerry, A. T. Oliver and H. D. Watts,
the retiring members, then withdrew
fora time while the new members, with
Aldermen Sherlock, Mitchell and Bol
ton, proceeded to business.
When all matters had been disposed
of members of both the old and new
councils, with a number of invited
guests, partook of a sumptuous feast
of oysters and other good things, pre
pared bv the firemen and employes at
the city hall, and good cheer reigned
supreme. It was a superb sapper and
heartily enjoyed.
The new council will meet ir^regn

This Is Doll Week
Eighteen companies of the Second
and Fourth Georgia Regiments have
been invited to come to Americas and
take part in the imposing exercises of
“Military Day,"and Americas will see
more of showy uniforms and brass but
tons than she has since the Federal
troops were hero.
For the carnival committee hopes
that every company will accept.
The carnival committee was notified
yesterday that the railroads centering
here wonld do their full part towards
making the fair a success bv allowing
the uenal rates on snch occasions.
A rate of one fare for the round trip
will be allowed from all points for via
itore generally, whilo a rate of one cent
per mile ia accorded military compan
ies and brass bands in uniforms. This
very low rate is highly satisfactory to
the committee, and insures a large
crowd.
Letters were received yesterday from
a dozen or more distinguished Geor
gians who were invited to attend the
carnival, several of whom annonneed
their intention of coming. Many
prominent people will be here.
With such a low railroad rate and ex
cellent list of attractions Americas
should have 20.00U visitors within her
gates next week.

case of the old Bank of Americas,
Jndge Littlejohn being disqualified.
The case is one having in view a dis
