rH E SOVEREIGN THAT LIVES.
One sovereign in the world never
i e = In that sovereignty there is
■ rer any break, never any succession,
i. i s a sovereignty older than that
eviiieb was exercised by Victoria, for
, „ 0CB back to the time of George III.
Changes in dynasties hnve taken place
, jonnwhile in great States ol the world
l,,,t that sovereignty has remained uu
changed.
It began in feebleness, but in the
short space of a little more than a ecu
i,irv it has become the stoneest, great
,,st power m the world. Thrones have
been overthrown and monarchies liavi
disappeared, but it has remained uu
touched, steadily gathering strength
,iud commanding respect and inspiring
fear.
lioside it all other sovereignties of
•he world are of fleeting consequence,
nud aro built on fantastic foundation!,
laid in an age when thrones aud seep
• res were surrounded wi’li a glamour
thev now have not.
That soverigu is theSov reign Araer-
i -an People — the most majestic sov
ereignty in the history of mankind and
•ho only sovereign exempt from the
mortality which makes vain ull lioust-
yill assumption in man. i r . is a sovere
ign ever renewing life as eucii success
ive generation comes in to build upon
the graves of genera'ions departed.
Long life to the Republic! Glory and
dominion forever to the Sovereign
American People!
GIVE MAN A CHANCE.
Form the tortile brain of Mrs. Lillie
Deierenx Blake comes forth this idea:
“Xo greater wrong has been done to
man than not teaching him to sew.
lie has nothing to do in the evening.
That's why he smokes too much. Now,
if he had only been taught embroidery,
think of the difference!”
Why has nobody thought of this be
fore: now that a way to correct this
groat wrong has been pointed out, let
the remedy bo applied. Wo have a
new woman; let’s havo a new man. Let
the woman establish kindergartens for
the purpose of teaching men how to
sew. There would probably be some
difficulty in teaching a man how to
thread a needle, bnt having overcome
that obstacle the rest would be compar
atively easy. He might bngin by sew
ing on buttons, then ho might learn to
hem and stitch aud pa'ch, and finally
graduate in the fancy art of embroid
ery. Then, as Lillie Devereux Bays,in
stead of having nothing to do in the
evening but smoke, the heretofore idle
and useless could employ their time in
making doylies, emboidering handker
chiefs and’ other things. Then the
home will not be deserted at eventide
when the women go to thsir clubs to
discuss the fashions and other great
economic problems pertaniug to the
amelioration of the womel race, which
u about all that’s left of the human
race. The men will remainat home and
by the mellow light ol a ihaded lamp
embroider their delicate tonceits and
fancies on whits cloth insttod of groen.
As ve sew, so shall ve rip-Nashvillo
