TO BRING ABE KLINE
BACK TOTHISCITY.
Sheriff of Stewart County Is Coming
Today.
WILL BE GIVEN A TRIAL TODAY
On W Issued to Local Bank
Charging Cheating and Swindling
Kline Came Clear On a Trial In
Stewart.
Abe Kline is coming to Americas to
day, accompanied by the sheriff of
Stewart county, and this afternoon,
perhaps, or at an early date will stand
trial npon the charge of cheating and
swindling.
The charge against Kline is that of
having cashed a worthless draft some
time ago, a charge that seems to have
been preferred at some other places.
Kline has been held in Lnmpkin
several days, pending trial there in a
case somewhat similar to the one here,
bat it was stated yesterday that proof
was insufficient and he was discharged.
He will be bronght to Americas on
the noon train today.
Sheriff Bell wired Sheriff Johnson,
of Stewart county, to that effect yester
day, ss this arrangement was more
convenient.
It is said that one difficulty in the
way of prosecuting Kline was the in
ability to bring parties from Baltimore
to appear against him—men for whom
he worked before drafts were cashed
Bnt the bank here has wired Kline’s
former employer, offering to pay his
expenses to Americas if be would come
to the trial and appear against Kline
The warrant against Kline, charging
cheating and swindling here, was issued
Augnstlstof laBtyear, against Albert
Kline, who represented himself as a
drnmmer for a Baltimore house.
The trial of the case here promises
to be deoidedly interesting,

□early three weeks ago a stack of mail
for "The Broaddns Institute of Heal
Ing” has accumulated here, including
letters from a dozen states and Can
ada. The “doctor" was a very exten
sive advertiser, and printers ink ap
poara to have brought him excellent
returns. As "The Broaddns Insti
tute of Healing" was temporarily
closed when the fnrnitare was at
tached, the doctor's mail is held for
him elsewhere.

worthy womco will be entitled to draw
pensions from tho state, and it is

are many in Americas and Sumter
county thus entitled to pensions.

PRESIDENT BROWN
VISITUMERICUS,
Warmly Greeted By His Friends In
This City.
HIS SUCCESS AS A PLANTER.
Was Great Last Year and He Will
Enlarge His Interests This Season -
Georgia Would Honor Herself In
Electing Pope Brown Governor.
Hon. Pope Brown, acoompanied by
Mre. Brown and jjon, Mr. William
Brown, are spending several days
pleasantly in Americas, guests of Dr.
and Mrs. George T. Miller on Lee
street. Tho many friends of Mr.
Brown were glad to welcome him to
Americas yesterday, when he took oo-
casion, despite the inolement weather,
to call npon a number of them. Mr,
Brown is one of Georgia's largest and
most successful farmers and is thor
oughly identified with the agricultural
interests of the state.
As president of the State Agricul
tural Society he has been untiring in
his efforts to advance the interests of
the agricultural olasses. He has been
anselfish in giving his time and talents
to the sneoess of the State Fair, and
to no one man in Georgia are the far
mers more indebted for their advance
ment than to the Hon. Pope Brown of
Pnlaski. Mr. Brown is also a mem
ber of the Railroad Commission of
Georgia, and is the only farmer who
ever served as a member of that body.
He finds the position a yery congenial
one, bat it is purely business with
Commissioner Brown when he attends
the meetings in Atlanta.
There is no man better qualified for
bnsiness than is this working man
from the Third Distriet on the Rail
road Commission.
Mr. Brown has reoently added
largely to his already extensive land-
od interests in Pnlaski connty. He
believes in the fertility of Georgia's
soil and pocketed some $25,000 in cash
from his farms the past year.
Doubtless with this handsome nu
cleus there will be no obstacle in the
way of the gentleman from the Third
entering the next Gubernatorial race,
and when be does enter therein he
will more than likely create a ripple in
the political waters of old Georgia.
Pope Brown is a strong and honest
man; the people believe in him. The
Times-Recorder tells yon now that he
will be in the race for Governor, and
he will make the far fly.
THE MODERN WAY
Commends itself to tho well informed,

the system and break up colds, head
aches, and fevers without unpleasant
after effects, use the delightful liqnid
laxative remedy, Syrup of Figs. Made

SUIT AGAINST HOTEL COMPANY
Result of a Tumble Through The
Elevator.
Mr. J. O. McArthur is still suffering
considerably from a severe fall
through an elevator shaft sevoral
months ago. The accident occurred
in a Savannah hotel, Mr. McArthur
stepping into the elevator, as he sap
posed, and falling from the first land
ing to tho basemont. His right foot
was badly injured and ho has never
recovered from the efiects of the tum
ble down the shaft. Quite receniiy
he instituted snit for damages against
the hotel company in the amount of
$7,100. The case will come to trial at
the next term of Chatham superior
coart.
