“Meagre particulars, reached Ameri
cas yesterday of a shocking tragedy
near Bnena Vista, v in which one of the
most prominent residents of that coun
ty met death at the hands of unknown
parties. The victim, Jeptha P. Wal
ker, was found dead near his home yes
terday morning, his body riddled with
bullets. It is said that there is as yet
no clue to the identity of his slayer
and the whole t deplorable tragedy is
veiled in deepest mystery. Sheriff
Parker, of Marion county, was in
Americas yesterday, but knew nothing
of the terrible crime, the dead body of
Mr. Walker having been discovered
after he left there for this city. Par
ties in Americus who {knew Walker
well^say that he islone of the wealthiest
and most prominent residents of that
county.^. Quite naturally the mysteri-
ouTkilling of such a man created a
profound sensation there, and the
crime will be probed to the bottom in
an effort to apprehend his slayer.
n v This prior-to-stock-taking-salc will not continue
indefinitely; it is important, therefore, that you attend
this sale immediately, and that you anticipate your
wants for sometime to come.

Sad Blow to Fond Parents
Awakening.
Lying between thorn, cold in doatb,
Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Gammnge found
their live months old baby bov at 1
o’clock yesterday morning. The little
one was perfectly well, apparently,
when they retired with it, and the ter-
riblo discovery of the little body, si
lent and rigid, was a sad blow to them
yesterday. There was no indication
of suffocation, and tho theory is that
the babe died of some sudden and
acute illness.
