Pretoria, dated Tuesday, March 5, evi
dently held np by the censor, has just
reached bore. It says General Kitch
ener met General Botha and other Boer
leaders at Middleburg on Feb. '17. when
the question of the possibility of termi
nation of hostilities was discussed.
Another dispatch from Pretoria, dated
Wednesday, March li, says the meeting
between Kitchener and General Botha
has awakened deep interest and that

from Pretoria, dated today (Friday),

Adding to this report. Lord Kitchener
states that 169 rifles, 24,970 rounds of
ammunition, 183 horses. !. 240 trek oxen,
020 cattle, 13,7.80 shoop. 100 wagons and
carts and large quantities of forage have
been captured without casualties in
Cape Colony.
He further reports:
“Parsons found a small comraaudo
north of Aberdeen and attacked them.
Kritzinger’s commando lias entered
Pcarstou, but Gorringer burned them
out and Lisle headed them in the road
to Somerset, east. ” , ,
Today’s dispatch makes French s total
captures in the recent operations as fol
lows: Guns, 70; rifles, 748; rounds of
ammunition, 204.1170; horses, 4,071; trek
oxen, 6,520; cattle, 28,220; jiheep, 178,*
780; wagons and carts, 1,157.

There was one alternative in the or
der. Judge LumpUm directed that if
Mr. Shaw still refused to make known
the evidence in question, the slit*rill
would incarcerate him in jail until ha
complied with the order. The minister
decided to divulge the evidence, al
though he did it reluctantly ami under
protest.
The order is the outgrowth of the suit
of Mrs. Hattie I. Bailey for a divorce
from her husband, J. II. Bully. Mr.
and Mrs. Bailey are residents of Gwin
nett county. It seems that one of the
parties in the case made an admission
to Mr. Shaw, which, it is said, is of u
highly sensational nature.

Spaktanburo, S. C. t March 8.—Rev.
Richard Meares, a subject uf Kuglaud,
is to bo tried for perjury. He has ap
pealed to the British ambassador at
Washington regarding his trouble, and
the affair has ooine through the con*
sulate at Charleston, the governor’s
office, the attorney general’s office and
is now in the hands of tho solicitor.
The solicitor says lie lias no doubt of
tho right of the state to try Meares, aud
will push the case.
Meares was whipped by a merchant at
Wellford a mouth ago, and he indicted
the merchant for deadly assac t, swear
ing that knucks were used. It was
proven there were none used and the
merchant, J. R. Jones, began this prose
cution for perjury.
