In Obsequies.
Indianapolis, March 13.—The same
atmosphere of quiet that has character*
ized the Harrison homo since the death
of General Harrison prevailed today.
The arrangements for the funeral pro
gressed rapidly and there were numer
ous arrivals of relatives and friends, but
for all this there was little unusual stir
or commotion.
Mrs. Harrison saw all the messages
and letters of sympathy which arrived
during the night and the early hours of
the duy, and she was consulted and ex
pressed her wishes in regard to the ar
rangements for the funeral and for the
entertainment of the relatives who will
be here for the occasion. She received
no callers, however, except one or two
of her most intimate friends. With her
constantly is her friend from New York,
Mrs. Caroline B. Stroud. Mrs. Betty
H. Eaton of Cincinnati, the general’s
sister, is staying at the Harrison home,
and she, with Mrs. W. H. H. Miller,
Samuel D. Miller and Mr. Tibbott, re
ceived the callers today.
Chapin C. Foster and S." D. Miller
watched last night with the body of the
general. This afternoon John H. Ma
honey, the sculptor, took a plaster cast
of the. features and head of the general,
aud the undertakers then took charge
and prepared the body for the coffin,
This afternoon the coffin will be re
moved down stairs into the front parlor
where it will lie until it is taken to tilt
capitol.
So many flowers have beeu received
at the Harrison home that a single room
will not hold half of them, and these
beautiful tributes to the memory of the
general continue to come in iu great
quantities, anti the uir throughout the
house is heavv with their odor.
President McKinley, who will arrive
Sunday morn in it, will be the guest of
Governor and Mrs. Durbin.
Military Display.
Arrangements for the military display
tomorrow have beeu completed and be
fore daylight the troops of the Indiana
National guard, all of which have beeu
called out, will begin to arrive. All
will be here ut J1 o’clock and will es
cort the body from the Harrison home
to the statehouse, where it will lie in
state uutil Saturday night.
The funeral services Sunday will be
in charge of the family and will bo unos
tentatious.
Seuator Fairbanks is here and Senator
Beveridge will arrive tonight. Nearly
all the Indiana congressmen will be
here, and distinguished men from all
over the country will come.
The business houses in theciry are to
day draped in mourniug, the suggestion
for this mark of respect having beeu
made by the Merchants association aud
Mayor Taggart. All flags remain at
half-mast. From noon until 2 o’clock
tomorrow business will be discontinued.

all of the members of General Harri

Butte, Mon.. March 15.—The police
officials have made public the details of
an attempt to blackmail Charles W.
Clark, son of Senator W. A. Clark, ont
of 15,000. Mr. Clark a few days ago
received a letter directing him to send
the money iu small bills to “Wyox,”

significantly that he was a dead shot.
The letter was turned over to the post-
office authorities. The general delivery
was watohed for several days, and fi
nally a small boy called for a package
addressed to "Wyox.” He was arrested
and questioned. Ho said a masked man
had given him 25 cents to call for the
