Central Got First train Through
Yesterday.
The first Central train, Columbus to
Americas, since Monday morning,
came through yesterday, clearing the
cyclone-wrecked train at Buena \ista.
It arrived at 2 a. m. and returned at
0:30 o’clock.
Several belated passengers for Ameri
cas came on this train, among them
Mr. Alex Taylor.
Mr. Taylor was aboard the train
Monday when the cyclone struck it,
and'gives a graphic account of the tear
ful catastrophe, one of the worst on
record here.
As already stated, the train was lilt
ed bodily from the rails and turned
over. The whole thing was ended in
a second and before the dazed and ter
rified passengers and crew knew what
had happened.
As soon as possible the injured ones
were carried to Buena Vista and given
attention. . . . ,
Mr. Taylor lost all his belongings,
including saehel, papers etc., but
whether they were carried away by tne
wind he does not know. Even a small
sum of money in his vest pocket was
lost in the same way.
Mr. Taylor did not receive a scratcu,
and to this extent was fortunate.
George Graham, of this city, was
driving in a buggy beside the traok
when the cyclone' struck the tram.
His vehicle was turned over, horses
and all, but he escaped injury.
Engineer Rogers, of the wrecked
train, was here yesterday. He said
the first he knew of the cyclone was
when a twenty toot piece of timber from
a nearby house came sailing throngh
the engine window.
Luckly it missed him, thought it scat-
ted glass everywhere.
Some thirty or forty honses, mostly
cabins and small outbuildings, were
blown down in Bnena Vista and vicini
ty. It is indeed remarkable that there
was so little loss of life nt this point.
The overturned ears and engine were
carried to Colnmbns yesterday.
Revivalists Conduct Services In the
City How.
When Rev. George W. Mathews,
pastor of Firat Methodist church, ac
companied by Mr. and Mrs. McUnr-
kan and Rev. Mr. Rye, well known re
vivalists, marched to the artesian we
yesterday, a crowd quickly gathered.
It was an innovation here in a relig
ions way, and the people listened with
Accompanying the minute: r ®,”
several membera of the First Metho
dist church, among them many ladies,
and these aided in the song servioe
which preceded the sermon.
All cf the ministers delivered short
but interesting talks, the crowd grow
ing in the meanwhile until several
hundred attentive listeners were gath
ered about the well. The services con-
tinned nearly an hour.
Mrs. MeClnrkan preached an earn
est sermon in conclusion.
The services made an impression
□pon many who probably never attend
church and therefore rarely hear a ser
mon delivered. •
The ministers will continue these
uptown meetings and at 3:30 o clock
this afternoon will hold services at the
Windsor Hotel comer. Everyone
whatever denomination is invited
attend today.
The usual daily services ot
church at 9:30 a. m. and 7:30 at night.

Commissioner of Agriculture Stevens
says he does not believe that the farm-

just commenced to receive reports from
the different sections of the country
regarding the cotton crop. In south
