For Encampment if Proper Effort Is
Made.
Americas stands a splendid chance
ofbeirgmade the place of encamp
ment for tho Fourth Georgia Regi
ment this summer.
The qneBtion of encampment was
discussed at length yesterday atnoDg
the officers of the Regiment assembled
in Albany, and Americus seemed a fa
vorite with many.
The encampment will begin June
lS:h and last ten days.
Americas, Bainbridge and Warm
Springs are the points between which
a selection will be made, with Ameri
cas a prime favorite.
The three majors of the Regiment
were appointed a committee to visit
Americas, Warm Springs and Bain-
bridge, and report upon the advant
ages and inducements they offer.
SCaptain Clarke feels confident that
with proper effort, together with our
natural advantages of location, Ameri
ens can win out easily.

FIREMEN MAY INSPECT HOUSES
Capital Idea is Suggeeted By a Cit
izen.
When the fire department is called
to a burning dwelling here the men are
often put at a disadvantage by igno
rance of its eonstrnotion, the location
of room, closets, stairways, etc. Talk
ing upon this line yesterday a promi
nent eitizen declared that the firemen
should be familiar with the interior ar
rangement of every large hoase in the
town. He will set on example,he says,
by inviting the men to his home and
showing them through it from cellar to
attic, and others should do likewise.
Fire losses might be lighter if this is
done generally,

The officers of the Americus Light
Infantry will go to Albany today pre
pared to invite the Fourth Georgia
Regiment to come to Americus for the
summer encampment, provided the
question of oamp site is discussed
among the Fourth’s officers.
They go with the assurance that
Americas wants the regiment.
Of course it is not known that the
place of encampment will be deter
mined today, but as the fall regiment
will be in Albany perhaps some snob
aetion will be taken.
The city connell of Americus has
been n quested by officers of the Light
Infantry to provide oamp ground, wa-
tor lights and snob conveniences as
may be required. The oonnoil has ex
pressed a willingness to do this, and
theoffioers base their invitation ac

Ameriens, as sho has ever done on
suoh occasions, sent a largo delega
tion of citizens, with the Ameriens
Light Infantry, to Albany yesterday,
the Central’s “Military Special” car
rying more than one hundred Ameri
cas people to the Attesian Oily.
The company carried thirty-five
men, while 07 tickets were sold here to
other citizens.
Quite a large number of ladies went
on the speoial, and the trip was a very
enjoyable one. The Oolnmbns Guards
and sovoral citizens of Columbus were
aboard the train.
At Smithville a half dozen other
military companies, ocoupving special
oars, were taken on, and the “Military
Special” went into Albany with the
crowd of the oooasion. Not less than
500 people were aboard this train when
it reaohed the depot.
The review of the Fourth Regiment
was a fine spectacle, as were other
features of the day. Tho Americas
party returned here last night.

When first discovered it had bnrned
through the roof above the sitting

removed the greater portion of the
fnrnitnre from the rooms of both floors,
except the oontents of the apartments
of Mr. and Mrs. R. 8. Broadband,
where the fire raged fiercest. Their
lots will be quite considerable.
Two streams were ponred upon the
fire from the roof, a* well as from the
inside, and the leaping flames were
extinguished.
Nearly if not ell the handsome fur

being elight.
The fire was foonfloed to the hign
