the order uf business of the three days
of the confederate reunion to bo held in
Memphis, May 25, 90 aud 30, inclusive:

Hampton Lends Grand Procession of

Columbia, 3. O., May 11.—Tho Au
gusta veterans called on General Hamp
ton yesterday moruiug in a body, aud
their spokesman made an address, to
which the general responded.
The whole town took holiday in tho
afteruoou, and thostroots were crowded.
It was the day of the veterans’ parade.
Memorial day aud a legal holiday. Bo-
sides the veterans, thousands of women
and children were on the streets and nt
the cemetery. General Wade Huuiptou
rode from his homo ami joined the vete
rans ou Main street uuii proceeded nt
tho head of tho column to Elmwood
cemetery. The old general sat wi'h
ease ou a fine horse, and acknowledged
the salutations by frequently uncover
ing. Ho rode 2Cj miles uud then re
turned ou horseback to his home.
At the cemetery tho ladies of Camp
Hampton, Daughters of the Confeder
acy, conferred the cross of honor upon
many old soldiers. The convention
closed last night.
General Walker estimates that ai least
4,000 old soldiers were present.

Dorothea, recently purchased by the
government to bo used as a training
school ship by the naval militia of Illi
nois, will start for Chicago from tho
navy yard today. The route will bo by
way of the St. Lawrence river nud the
great lakes. Tho Dorothea is manned
by a crow of 50 naval cadets, who ar-

MUST PAY THE PENALTY
Sentences of Murderers Affirmed by
Supreme Court.
Mcxtoomery, Ala., May 9. — The
state supreme court today aflirmed tho
decision of the Jefferson ciroait court in
the case of Frank Miller, the noted
burglar, convicted of killing two police
officers of Birmingham and sentenced
to death. The day of execution has
been fixed for June 28.
Alonzo Williams, also couvioted of
murder in tho Jefferson circuit court
and sentenced to death, was refused a
new trial and will hang June 28.
