<ieo.’D. WHEATLEY,
When the Mystic Shriners prepared
for their late pilgrimage to Amerions
they brought along a portable "oasis,”
having been erroneously informed that
nothing hot artesian water could be
procured here, and when the home
ward march was made the bit of rare
pottery containing the camel’s milk
was left behind. This unique concep
tion in glassware is preserved by local
"Nobles” as a treasured souvenir of
the recent festivities and is exhibited
to a chosen few. It bears the simple
legend "Seven Gallons” bnt anyone
sniffing at the bnnghole will immedi
ately conjure up fond memories of Sa*’
vannahand tho liquid of ••artillery”
strength whioh :a brewed there only.
Like tho shattered vase of song about
whioh tho scent of the roses lingered
still, this receptaole of ineense tells a
story of a banquet hall deserted and a
hot time in the old town that night.

Another Georgia Town Supplies Our
Canned Goods.
Walk into any grocery store in
Americas today, look upon the great
pyramids of canned goods and read
the labels on the cans—thousands of
’em. The result may surprise some
who have never known, or cared,
where onr canning commissary was
located.
Nearly every can of fruit bears the
label of a Fort Valley factory.
This is a Georgia enterprise, and
Americus prefers to buy such goods
manufacturing them it is commendable
in our merobants to thus patronize
this home institation,
Bnt if Fort Valley can ship carloads
of her products here and sell them at a
good price, does it not stand to reason
that we could go into bnsiness on the
same basis, consume what we require
and ship the surplus to some less en
terprising town?
Fort Valley’s cannery is one of her
busiest enterprises just now.
Tons of vegetables are beingcanned,
and very soon the canning of fruit
will begin. Millions of cans will be
put up there for market.
To save some part of the vast quan
tity of frnit that will rot hero this
year, an Amerions man proposes t<
furnish gronnd and lumber for a can
ning establishment if anyone will go
in with him and buy the machinery.
This literal offer goes bagging.
There is a fine opportunity here for
the establishment of snch an enterprise.
