The Promptings of Prudence.
Prudence should prompt you to read our store
news, especially at this season. If there’s virtue in
economy, then our advertising columns plainly
points the way by which that virtue can be put into
immediate practice. Let us again explain that our
policy is opposed to carrying over any sort of mer
chandise from one season to another. Only one way
to make this policy active, and that is by active
price reductions. These reductions stand out on
these offerings so that there’s no mistaking them.

Burglar Swiped His Trousers as He
Slept.
When Dr. C. M. Shivers awoke from
a series of blissful dreams yesterday
morning be was obliged to fish among
bis winter raiment tor a pair of trou-
eors, and these were worn to the store
minus suspenders. The cause of
this change of attire was the visit of a
burglar during the night. The mid
night caller selected Dr. Shivers troii
sers, containing about ten dollars in
bills, and this, with such other brio a
brae aq suited his fancy, was carried
away. Entrance was effected through an
open kitchen window. The burglary
was reported to the police early yes
terday morning, but the trail of the
thief has not yet been discovered.

The body was ordered sent home

Mr. Furlow left Americas some
three weeks Bince, hoping to derive
much benefit from a stay at the springs,
and tidings since received etreeuraged
the belief that he was better.
The immediate canse of bis demise
is not known as yet, bat it is possible
that it was due to a stroke of apoplexy.
The announcement of his death last
evening was beard with nnfeigned sor
row by his many friends here, and ex
pressions of tenderest sympathy for his
stricken yonng wife and little babe of
nine months came from many sources
Genial, affable, of conrtly manner,
he easily made and retained friends
everywhere.
Mr. Fnrlow was a native of Ameri
cue and the thirty-eight years of his
yonng manhood were spent here. He
was a son of the late James W. and
Michal C. Fnrlow, and was widely

was an ideally happy one, and blessed
by a little daughter. The deceased

In Looking For Property Subject To
Taxation.
When the board of tax assessors be
gin the task of canvassing tho proper
ty returns for the oarrent year they
will look closely after a class of pro
Petty, particularly notes and accounts,
that heretofore were not returned.
And among the notes may be those
of local fertilizer dealers.
A oity oilldal.in speaking of the mat
ter yesterday, said it was trne that fer
tilizers to the value of many thousand
dollars — away up in the figures—was
subject to tax by the city.
Bis information was that fertilizers
were bonght outright, like other mer
chandise, and sold to farmers on credit,
the later giviog notes therefor. These
notes, he maintains, are snbjeet to tax
ation, like other property.
The dealers, of oonrse, have their
eide of the question, and their notes
may or may not be snbjeot to taxation
like other aceonnte.
